Gen5 Hybrid?!

I was in the drive through at In and Out today with my 07 Camry when I noticed a car ahead of me on the other drive through lane... It was a Gen 5 Camry with a Hybrid Badge on it.... no Toyota Synergy badge, it just said 'HYBRID' I thought someone must've put it on there were other cues that this car wasn't just some regular Camry with a Hybrid sticker on it... I also noticed the lights... It's like the Gen 5's but the clear stripe in the middle of the light, there were two of them.... (and no, not like the Gen5.5, they were actually stripes...) I also noticed a long lip spoiler that ran across the trunk. It also had alloy wheels, that didn't look stock, for they were quite big. Might I mention this was the In and Out next to the AQMD (Air Quality Management District) and there have always been intresting electric cars buzzing around there... Did I miss something or did Toyota secretly produce a couple Gen5 Hybrid's?

Yes, somewhere close to 20k of them this year so far.

No, there were no hybrid Gen 5's. Those are aftermarket tail lights and aftermarket wheels. Toyota never made a Gen 5 hybrid. Only a Gen 6 hybrid. And all Toyota Hybrid cars have the Synergy Drive emblem.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.

I heard some folks are stealing Hybrid badging and placing it on their cars so they can drive in the HOV lanes. Anyone lost any badges yet?

Well since you said it only had HYBRID on the side, could it be that the person was referring to the car as a hybrid in the sense that it had all those aftermarket enhancements. So making it a hybrid in the sense that a bunch of different things were put together on the car.

Actually, I remember when the TCH was originally introduced, they hand-jammed a HSD system into a Gen5 (for testing only).

If there was anyway to hybridize our 02 XLE within a reasonable cost, I'd do it lol. My dad likes his Camry too much.
