New TCH owner needs help!!!

I can't figure out a few things:
  1. How do I cancel a trip if I'm in the middle of a guided trip?
  2. How do I say to avoid a particular street?
  3. How do I make the TCH stay in electric only mode?
  4. Does anyone know of a list of voice commands online?
I have a few more but I'll start with those out there.

Thanks,

Jesse

I don't have a specific answer to your questions right now, but I did find out how to turn the override off so that all the options on the nav are availble when you are driving heh. I think it was posted by Ken on another forum, so props to him!

Yes, there is. The override function can be engaged no matter if your car is still or in motion.

1. Hit the "MENU" button (from the left column of options next to your navi screen).

2. Choose "VOLUME" on the screen (should be the middle option on the top row)

3. Press the following areas on your navi screen in this order within a few seconds of each other:

a. upper left part of the screen (on the speaker icon, to the left of where it shows "VOLUME")

b. lower left part of the screen (it's blank, but there's a hidden function there)

c. repeat step 3a

d. repeat step 3b

4. You'll now see a screen called "Service" listing different options (note - this is primarily for use by Toyota service technicians, so I wouldn't select any other option beyond the one I'm about to tell you to use). Select the 3rd option down on the left hand column, "Over Ride". MAKE SURE YOU HOLD THE BUTTON DOWN FOR AT LEAST 2-3 SECONDS. You'll know if it's engaged by when you release the button - it should turn a dark shade of blue. Hit "BACK" - it's on the upper right part of the "Service" screen.

5. Now, select the "return" (curved arrow) function on the VOLUME screen.

All functions that were previously locked while your car was in motion should now be accessible. The only caveat here is that you need to follow all these steps every time you restart your car. I know this sounds like a lot of steps, but it should take you less than 20 seconds once you've gotten the hang of it.

Ok, to cancel a trip, i'll have to go outside and play around with it, as i've never tried to cancel one, i'll report back in a little while if I find anything out.

The override isn't working at all in my car - after I touch the lower left the second time, nothing happens.

Let me take a shot at this one.

First of all, the car needs to be warmed up. When I first start out, it is next to impossible to go electric. After I have driven a few blocks, then I can do it.

It also is easier to do, when the A/C is off. It doesn't have to be off, it just is easier with it off.

Generally, I will accelerate up to 40 or 45 mph, and then take my foot off the accelerator. As the car slows down below 40 mph, it will go into electric mode.

At that time, I will lightly press on the accelerator.

If the road is flat, it will stay in EV mode. My record is a little over a mile.

When the battery gets depleted, you can accelerate back to 40, coast to get regeneration and continue some more.

Hope this helps.

1) Map-View Route Delete or Menu Suspend Guidance
2) My Places - Avoids - Register or Route Detour
4) Your should have received a NAV Suppliment Booklet with your car. The inside back cover lists the Voice Commands.
I scanned the booklet but this board doesn't allow file attachments.

I've been doing the NAV override since the day I got the car. I was really prepared for using the NAV. I still don't understand why you can't use the points of interest while you're driving. I also am not familiar yet with the voice commands to operate the POI's and address finder, so until I am, it looks like its over-riding for me.

In response to your response, schmidtj:

1) Route Delete worked perfectly. I didn't want to suspend guidance since I want to still change my course
2) I had an Acura MDX that I just traded in for the TCH and when you selected a destination and chose to route to it, you could bring up a turn-by-turn list, that if you clicked on each segment, it would find a new route. I don't see anything like this feature in the TCH. Am I just missing something?
4) I saw the NAV Suppliment Book but lo and behold, I didn't think to look past the appendix. I think I might be making a small laminated cheatsheet of NAV voice commands until I become fully confident using the voice controls.

Is it just me or does anyone else find the voice assisted guidance annoying? I turned it off after 2 days. On a side note, turning it off seemed to make the navigation operate a little faster.

Thanks again. Its great to know theres a board to discuss this car with other owners.

The best way is to actually glide which means NO arrow to or from the battery. This way, you're not using battery power, your engine is off and you're not slowing down as much due to the "drag" in the PSD and it trying to recharge the battery. You'll go longer before having to speed up again because you don't have that drag.

Once you've gotten a hang of gliding, you can try and master P&G or Pulse & Glide. This is NOT to be done when there's traffic around you cause the constant change in speed will piss people off. Msg me if you want to know more.

the reason for the electric being impossible to do when cold starting is because the gas engine NEEDS to warm up. If it goes electric right away the gas engine wills tay cold. When gas engines run cold they use more gas and run less effieiciently than once theyre warmed up. so the TCH allows the gas engine to get warm, then lets you do the full electric thing
