Temp gauge always slightly low

Is this a common thing? My temp gauge never rises above the tick mark below the halfway position.

Is everyone else's temp gauge centered when the car is warmed up?

Mine shows about the same and it kinda appears to be normal. Why are you thinking it should indicate higher than this?

Usually, manufacturers design the gauge to read perfectly center at normal operating temperature. I want to know if there is some kind of defect in my car (gauge, sensor, or thermostat).

Both my '07 Camrys (HV and XLE-V6) sit at about 8:30 on the temp dial.
