It goes on and on about using genuine toyota motor oil with a viscosity range of 5W-20 to 0W-20. No reference toward synthetic. One thing that caught my eye was the oil consumption rate of 1.1 quarts per 600 miles. (page 270) WOW! I do think this is rather high.

What do you guys think?

Oil

I Have 6600 miles on my TCH. Changed oil at 3500 and used pennzoil platinum synthetic.
Prior to oil change was getting 33/34 mpg in the vegas area. It was very hot during the summer months. I noticed a 3 mpg improvement almost immidiatly and since it has cooled down to the 80/90s am now getting a easy 41 driving localy. My best trip was to orange county CA on the 15. got 42.7 mpg over 260 miles at around 75 mph

What weight is the Pennzoil you used? My dealer in Canada doesn't seem to know what oil I should use. I got answers that ranged from 5w30 to 5w20, to Toyota doesn't recommend 0w20, to don't use synthetic! I have a while until I need a change so I hope those idiots readup on what Toyota spells out as oil specifications which anyone can find in their literature or on line. I hate to have to be their teacher and still pay for their service.

Toyota's stance is that synthetic oil is ok to use, but they do not recommend that it be used beyond the service intervals beyond Toyota's recommendations. This is not specific to Camry hybrid though. However, since your cars are still under warranty, it is probably not a good idea to run the oil in there beyond regular service interval because they might deny warranty claims and attribute engine problems to the extended oil change intervals.

I have the camry ce(planing to buy tch in 20 days) and i just did my second oilc chance at 10K miles. I used 5w20 mobil 1 full syntetic. On my first chance i used 0w20 withc is recomanded first on manual. And it does noy say anything about not using syntetic.I always beleved thay syntetic has batter protection and greater HP and MPG.

pennzoil synthetic

I used 5W30. They just announced a special Hybrid oil, 0W30. http://www.pennzoil.com/products/mot.../platinum.html

I will use it next time
