Transition from gas to electric at speed only occurs below 42 mph, and you can't really feel that. If you are at speed at all then the startup of the ICE is usually not noticeable. I don't even think about it anymore.
You notice the shifts in a standard transmission more than the transitions in the TCH for the most part.
There are no lunges.

Most noticable when the ICE starts immediately when starting from a dead stop. After you drive the car long enough you can tell when the ICE starts and stops but it is very subtle but to say it is not noticeable would be blowing smoke up a primary orifice.

Not to be argumentative, but it is usually not noticeable in my situation. I think at speed it is less noticeable than the shifts of the 07 V6 XLE I used to have when it was working right. It is different than a shift, a feeling of a rumble or a very slight vibration for a fraction of a second. In any case it is one of those things which I am very accustomed to at this point and I don't even think about it. I notice it only when I am starting from a stop or speed is very low.

I don't perceive this as a "jerk" or a "lunge", just a mild shudder as the ICE kicks in. During my test drive, it was definitely noticable, because it is not a sensation you are normally expecting. Have had my TCH for 2 months and 4500 miles, and now I don't even notice it. Even my wife, who hardly rides in the car, says it's barely noticable now that she is "expecting" it.

You won't really notice it. With the CVT transmission the car accelerates more smoothly than any Camry with a conventional drivetrain. Its a lot quieter too.
