What is the lighted blue "halo" around speedometer for?

I've seen it both on and off while driving at night....under what conditions does it turn on?

Halo

Shows that you're meeting fuel economy goals. I'm not sure at what points it goes on, but if you're doing better than 30mpg it lights up.

It is supposed to glow brighter as your FE improves. A little positive feedback!

Ok thanks - I was confused because I saw it turn on once while I was moderately accelerating with the engine on (probably instantaneous 20mpg).

I only remember seeing it on at night, but then again, I never really paid much attention to it. It was my friend who asked what it was for.

It goes from off to various levels of brightness as the "ECO Drive level" increases. I think it comes on when your trip mileage hits 25mpg, then gets brighter in 5mpg steps up to 40mpg.

0-25: Off
25-30: Dim
30-35: Brighter
35-40: Brighter Yet
40+: Brightest

Yep... I thought the instrument panel was going buggy changing brightness levels while driving!! But sure enough, that is the answer on page 137 column #3; there are actually only (4) levels of brightness but who's counting? A neat little feature to keep ya in the "green!"

Yea, it lets you look at some of the other displays besides ECO.
