synthetic 5w20 vs. regular 5w20 - which to put in?

I'm planning to have my first oil change on my Camry Hybrid at approx. 2000 km. I will be putting in synthetic but my dealership only carries the 5w20 in synthetic. What is the difference between synthetic 5w20 and synthetic 0w20 was? What are the pros and cons of each? Is it better to go with the synthetic 5w20 over regular 5w20? What are the benefits?

Check this out, it should answer most of your questions:

For you I would go with 5W-20 Synthetic...I'm planning on 5W-30 for my V6 here in Tampa, FL.

I went with Mobil 1 5w20 full synthetic. I search 7 stores no 0w20 Mobil. I did not look for any other brands. So good luck finding it.
I got batter mpg after I replaced mine to full synthetic at 1800 miles.

From toyota tsb eg018-06 engine oil recommendation.

ILSAC GF–4 SAE 5W–20
This oil has been set as the Toyota genuine engine oil, starting in February 2006 for
the U.S. This oil is superior in terms of fuel economy, engine protection, and cold
starting performance.

ILSAC GF–4 SAE 0W–20
This oil has even better fuel efficiency and cold starting performance than 5W–20. Initial
application for 0W–20 is in the 2006 model year 2AZ–FE engine and will be used in new
engines to be developed.

Since your tag says you're in Canada and the winters in some areas of Canada can be brutal a 0W30 would help with cold temp startings. Unless the temps get really cold on a regular basis (-10/-20F) a 5W20 will do just fine.

Go with Castrol Syntec 5W30, full synthetic.

I've used it exclusively in my 4cyl camry 1996, 120K miles, doesn't get dirty or use oil. use the same in my 2001 Highlander, again, stays clean and doesn't use a drop. I live in Northern NJ, so no issues with cold start.

Actually your statement may do a disservice to synthetics or your particular selection of an oil in general. If your oil "stays clean" it means one of three things.
1) You car is producing nothing to dirty the oil. Not likely.
2) You oil filter is doing a stupendous job in filtering out ALL the impurities. Not likely.
3) Your oil is not holding the impurities in suspension and they are just collecting at the bottom of the oil pan.

Oil that is working correctly will not and should not "stay clean" even with a near perfect oil filter.
