How do you manage with the tiny trunk?
What happens if you need to pick up a couple people up at the airport that have checked large pieces of luggage?
I agree the TCH trunk is small but a non-hybrid Camry trunk is nothing to brag about either. In your scenario of a couple of people, plus the driver, and over size luggage a non-hybrid would be hard pressed to carry it all inside.
If I had to use my TCH as a airport taxi I would look at either a Yakima or Thule Roof Rack... Or better yet a hitch mounted luggage carrier.
For those situations with more than 2 guests and a LOT of luggage, bring another car/SUV. But for the other 99.9% of the time the TCH is great at 37mpg.

A hitch voids the warranty because the towing capacity is 0lbs.

So, it isn't a practical vehicle then if you don't have a second vehicle available in case you have to pick up visiting relatives carrying big pieces of luggage a couple times a year.

Sounds like it in your scenario. Personally, I was a bit surprised at how much trunk space was available based on hearing reports of it's tiny size.
Most sedans will be somewhat limited in cargo and passenger carrying ability though so if that is a deciding factor you might prefer a minivan...which is not going to give you the mileage of a hybrid obviously, but it's all about finding the right compromise for your situation.
I would be happy to recommend the Sienna! Holds LOTS of luggage and people...

I guess that depends on your definition of practical and your needs. For once or twice a year airport runs I could rent / borrow a van or get a cab if I need one. Plus the roof racks or hitch are still an option.
Just a FYI Toyota cannot "void" your vehicles warranty if you install or use a hitch. For more information on your warranty and your rights take a look at:
This is usually how most people justify purchasing a mega-SUV. They need to take 4 people and their luggage to the airport once or twice a year or need to tow their boat at most 3 times a year.
Then they put up with 362 days each year of 16mpg and a consequently higher level of pollution driving it with themselves as the only occupant.

I drove my Camery to Buffalo from Toronto with 5 adults and 2 fullsize and 2 medium size cases. Had to use a Tie down, which I tied to my Trailer hitch as the trunck was slightly open..
The hitch I put on
I was told the warrenty would be voided. I showed the dealer the information packet which was given to me at the same dealer. On it , it says Camery Hybird can tow up to 1000lbs. Shut him up...
On my way back to Toronto we had 5 adults and 3 fullsize cases and 2 medium cases. Trunk was fully open. I still used my tiedown to the Hitch.
I don't mean to rabbit on, but if you go to any dealer they have a optional extra book, in it it lists the trailer hitch etc...
If you are looking for a car with a "practical" trunk, then you bought the wrong car. The tradeoff for the hybrid efficiency in the TCH is the lack of trunk space. I knew that when I bought the car (i.e. I can no longer be the driver when my golf foursome goes to play, and I was always the driver with my Cadillac and it's huge trunk) but as others have mentioned, you just need to use another vehicle for those infrequent trips. You have to purchase the right vehicle to fit your own life. If I was going to play golf with my foursome on a daily (or even weekly) basis, then I never would have bought the TCH.
