08 TCH Check Engine light!!

I picked up my new 08 Camry Hybrid on friday, drove it to work on monday, and by tuesday morning the check engine light was on!!
A whole 200km of trouble free driving was not what I had in mind when the salesman sold me on "Toyota Quality". Now I understand that sometimes things happen and we must grin and bear it....but, the manager and dealership that had been only too eager to help me with every question and concern 4 days ago, suddenly treated me like a nobody....no suprise there. What I'm really upset about is there was no offer to provide me with a car of any kind, not even when they called and left a message that the 5 1/2 hours they'd had the car wasn't enough time to even diagnose the problem (read hook it up to the computer) so they'll have to keep it for at least another day!!
I may be over reacting, but in my opinion there should be some grace period where they still treat you like you haven't already signed the deposit cheque. My car has fewer km's than half the "new" cars on the lot and I can't even get the manager to say anything but "I wouldn't worry about it".
To anyone who took the time to read this, Sorry for the rant but the dealership doesn't care and the dog just looks at me like I'm nuts.

Sam

Oh man! I have experienced that same thing when I purchased my '01 Toyota Camry, they treat people indifferently after we have patronized their car. I wish I could return the car in their faces to make them feel the unethical attitudes they have.

An update for anyone who cares. I got the car back (after three days) hopped in and managed to get another 50km on the clock before the CHECK ENGINE light came on again!!! I've contacted CAMVAP (Canadian Motor Vehicle Arbitration Plan) and they said I should give Toyota another chance before going to arbitration to get my money back. It will have had four parts replaced and been back in the dealership for more days than I’ve had it…I’d say I got a Lemon. Maybe I'll go back to the TDI forum...no wait....My Jetta's Check engine light is on too....

Sounds like a bunch of shotgun mechanics, gun one new part in at a time and hope it works. Seen this many times take it to another dealer.

That’s actually the dealership that I purchased the car from. I just got back from there and I must be lucky because they’ve never had this happen before, and no one there knows what to do next…seriously… they have to call Toyota and find out what the next step is. To anyone thinking about buying a Toyota Camry Hybrid, go for it, don’t worry, I’ve already got the “lemon”. On a positive note these are GREAT on gas!!! I’ve owned it for a week and a half and I’m only half way through my first tank of gas….sigh…
