Hello from Soon 2 be Hybrid Owner

Hi yall,

Well I have been reading this forum for the past month, and am probably going to get a TCH soon. Basically I plan to buy one this summer (after june) or some time this fall (by October). In the mean time I plan to just read as much information as I can from you all I am a recent College grad so yes I want a nice sporty car but with Gas going to be reaching $4 bucks a gallon (or so some say in the "Economist periodical") and i want to save as much money as I can and Gas is one of the things i think I can save on esp long term.

Oh one thing I I some times don't get from the post are all the acronyms used, like the TMS (tire monitoring system) so if some one can post a list of the top 10 acronyms used on the forums that would be great

So thought I would say Hi

Hello and welcome! Feel free to browse the other forums too (HybridChat and GreenHybrid) for more information (particularly the latter with TCH manuals and tips/tricks etc).

ICE - Internal Combustion Engine (sometimes In-Car Entertainment)
TPMS - Tire Pressure Monitoring System
VSC - Vehicle Stability Control (S = Skid for older models)
TRAC - Traction Control (It's Toyota's acronym.. the general one is TCS)
F/I - Force Inducted (took me a while to figure out this one)
DI - Direct Injection/Injected
FTW - For The Win
BTW - By The Way
Bxx - Biodiesel. The number following the "B" indicates the % of diesel that's biofuel.
VVT-i - Variable Valve Timing w/ intellegence. Toyota's variable valve timing system. Dual VVT-i means variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust valves
LOL - laugh out loud

Welcome , Based on the research I did , as well as test driving (both dealerships and AVIS/HERTZ) I went with the TCH .

IMHO I think we will be lucky if gas only goes to $4/Gallon - I can see $5 and up (Europe is over $7/ litre). Rumors have it that the '09 Prius will have a plug-in capacity so that may also be a vehicle you would want to check-out...

This Forum is less "aggressive" than GreenHyprid while both provide lots of relative info to enhance the pride of ownership.

FWIW I would buy all the option packages on your TCH that you can afford,
but save some $ by buying the accessories after you receive the vehicle.
Lots of pre-purchase advise is here to assist you getting a good deal...

This is incorrect. Currently, regular unleaded is a little over one UK pound a liter, making it around $8 a gallon (US - 3.8 liters). Diesel is over $10/gal, but nowhere in Europe is it up as high as $7/litre (yet!).

My Bad. I thought they pumped litre's over the pond but my metric conversion never took place as I typed. My point was that we aren't paying as much as Europe but we are marginally closing the gap...

I've had my hybrid 3 months and love it. Needed something big enough for the family and gas mileage ain't bad either. Lowest has been 35 and highest so far has been 38.

Sorry i have been away and not replied ...just wanted to say thanks for the support for every one who replied.

well Gas made $4 a gallon in the bay area (or so NPR said this past week) so I guess we will see long it will take to go nation wide.

Hello:
I am a new member of the forum as well. In fact we shall be picking up our new 2009 Camry Hybrid today (4/28/2008) at the dealership!

The one we ordered has the optional Leather Upgrade Package, the Moonroof, the heated seats and mirrors and the Upgrade package (minus the Navigation System) and oh yes the rugs for the floors and the trunk. So it is a fairly loaded car.

The color is Sky Blue Pearl and the leather is the light bisque tan. The Sky Blue Pearl appears to be a fairly rare color for the TCH in the northeast. When the dealer did a search for the car there was only 1 within 200 miles that was equipped as we wanted it.

Cheers,
Art
