Hi,
I'd love to buy a new Camry Hybrid in the US, but I'm a canadian citizen. Does anyone know any dealers in the US northeast that will sell to Canadians?
Are there any tricks around this? Can I have my friend buy it and then sell it to me to take across the border?

Just out of curiosity, how much are you hoping save by buying a TCH in the states?
Remember to compare apples to apples. The base model in Canada comes with more standard features than the one from the US. Also you will be giving up any sort of warranty in Canada. You will not be eligible to get any of the Canadian rebates offered on Hybrids. You will have to pay full tax in the US and Canada (whether you can apply to have to US tax back, I'm not sure). You will have to pay excise tax. You will have to pay cash, no financing. You will probably want to change the speedo to KMS and the fuel economy gauges to L/100km, as well as the ECU will have to be changed to Metric units. ChaChing!
Usually the rule of thumb I have researched is that unless the car is worth well over $30,000, there is not enough of a savings to make it worth while. And that was before Canadian Dealers have been forced to lower their prices due to consumer pressure.
Must be a Canadian dealer.
If you want to spend 8000 dollars more, buy it in Canada.
Warranty is covered in Canada.
All you pay is GST and small importing fees. Easy.
American state tax is not required.
Speedometer not an issue.
There is no rebate federally on 2009 models in Canada so no money lost there.
There are dealers in the US who will sell to Canadians, obviously not Fitzmall though from the previous reply of the Fitzmall dealer. Check the internets for these dealers. Try redflagdeals.com or Edmunds.

LOL. I have no idea where you got $8,000. An ES is $8-11k (before the price drop) so that $8k is not valid now with the price drop.
Plus don't forget you'll have to find a dealer that'll sell you a US-made TCH (US gets JDM TCHs too so if you happen to get one of those, you'll pay the 6.5% when it crosses the border).

Fitzmall has a loaded 2009 Camry Hybrid for 28300. add GST, RIV, call it 2000 more. 30 300. Calgary msrp taxes included 38500 for same car. Maybe you could get 1000 off that? 37500. No duty . All the Fitzmall ones currently are made in USA. It looks attractive to buy in the US still. Even the dealers up here are doing it.

Loaded with nav is $31,000. Unless you mean they have a discount on that ($3k off?) or it has no navigation. If so, do they pass it on the Canadian buyer? Cause I've asked two US dealers and they said the offer is only for the US ones. Canadian buyers pay MSRP (that and because they do some of the paperwork like grabbing the recall certificate).
Again, if you can get the US made one, the better. Maybe you guys are hogging it LOL. On the west coast, it's a mix of JT and 1T/4T.

no, akira is fitzmall. They won't sell to Canadians. There are some that will though and are giving us american type deals. I have to buy in September so I'll check closer to that date with a couple of leads I have dug up.
