Bought a new Hybrid a month ago, have 3316 miles as of this morning. I drive 120 miles round trip daily, about 1/3 interstate, 2/3 open road 55 mph and pass through a couple of small towns. I'm averaging 41.2 miles per gallon which seems to be pretty high compared to what I've read in some older forums. Was wondering what other folks were getting for milage.
I bought mine Jan. 31 and have 5600 miles on it. Drive 46 miles a day and get between 36-38 mpg. Half of my trip is 2 lane country road; the other half is 4 lane highway.

Great job driving that TCH and getting over 40 , or should I act like the Blue Glowing Speedo/MID and say Excellent !!
Bought New 4/5/08 and with 4400 miles I am averaging 43.1 mpg (pen/paper). My 88 mile oneway commute is 1/3 highway (65) ; 1/3 County road (55) and 1/3 City (45-30). Over this daily 176 mile extreme commute I lost 2 mpg when I was forced to pump E10. I'm currently using non-sticker real gasoline and thru 3 tanks the Navi average (not reset) is currently 44.1 , while on this tank the MID says 44.8. I've pretty much had 42.5 to 46.9 as my NAVI average since the 2 mile start - so much of the TCH mileage is how you drive it and allowing the time to get to your destination.
I drive the speed limit ; drive defensively ; coast to stoplights ; use the let off accelerator method to force E-mode thru towns ; use cruise control ; use the A/C in ECO mode only and pump 93 octane. I let other driver's Win and let Road Rage pass by me with my new tactic : go slower not faster. I have other vehicles for taking fast to the Strip. I will change the TCH to synthetic oil at 5000 miles and maybe even gain some more...
The revised EPA sticker indicated 34/33 and I'm very pleased how much more I see . The Prius gets all the media but the TCH's Secret is slowing getting out ...

I commute 40 miles, round trip, a day during the week in NW Atlanta suburban traffic and use my TCH for all errands and running around on weekends... Not the best mileage listed in the database but it is double what my truck was getting so I am happy...

46.8 using e-85, hand calculated and filled, computer shows 47.8

I agree : That's fantastic ... What kinda range at fill-up does your MID show ? I trying not to run any ethanol so with E85 you're in the 50 mpg range...Nice

Are you running E-85 in a TCH? Are you towing the car to the tops of hills and then coasting down? I didn't think the TCH was rated for E-85 by Toyota. Most of the folks that I know running 85% ethanol are getting around 60 tp 65% of what they get on gasoline. If you can get that kind of mileage with E-85 and no problems, burn E-10 or straight gasoline. You would be near 70mpg....
Mine has a lifetime average of 39.5 over the first 11,500 miles with the last 4 or 5 tanks being in the 42 mpg range.
A few stations now have blending pumps up here in the cold North. You can buy regular 10% or 20%,30%40%50%60%70%and last E85.l I did not claim 70MPG, my low is 40 when it is -30 below, and 43.5 summer with the normal mandated 10% which will soon be going to 20% vodka lol.I get rite now hand calculated 46.8, aprox 1 mpg lower than computer reads. We experimented with all the different blends at the pump and e-85 is a little lower milage than the rest but is cheapest and offsets the differance. I don't tow it to the tops of hills, but do tow 2 full dress Harley's in an enclosed trailer at times. it snorts them along like they are not even there. I know they say it cannot be done but it tows as good as any truck we have ever had and cheaper tooo lol. Then they say use only 0-20 oil or you will shell it out what a crock, full synthetic Amsoil has a pour point well below the -50 degrees point and even their 10-30-10-40 wts will flow well at low temps. I have jet aircraft engines running on it and they cost 100 times what this funky little toyota engine cost. But everyone has their own story on oil ect.
I'm wondering if some of the extreme mileage numbers are based on Imperial measurements rather than U.S. gallons or something. I have no idea how in the world someone could wring out 46 mpg out of this car unless you drove it under 40 mph (in E mode) most of the time. I can see maybe 40 mpg under ideal conditions and true "granny driving"
I consistently average 35-37 mpg per tank depending on the mix of fwy/city driving. I do try to use some of the hybrid driving techniques, but try to stay with the flow of traffice to some degree as well (to avoid undesired road rage here in L.A. )
On a side note, I continue to be amazed at the whining about high gas prices while constantly being passed (and almost run over at times) but morons in their SUVs, pickups etc going 85 mph...probably averaging 10-15 mpg at best! Today coming home from Central Cali on I-5 it was absolutely unbelievable how aggresively these people drive. Sometimes I wonder if they have something against hybrids? Hmmm....

Don't sweat the morons in the big SUV's, latest news is GM and the major auto Mfg's are shutting down many SUV plants and putting them to rest forever, Hummer is even on the block (chopping) lol! Saving the fuel for us hypermillers!
My lifetime average for the vehicle is 39.9. Yesterday on my morning commute to work I hit 50mpg for the first time for any commute. My last tank average was 43.9 I think. I don't use any advanced "hypermiling" techniques. I stay right about the speed limit +\- 5mph. One thing to keep in mind is the topology of your route. I recently learned how this does make a difference. Going to work I go down about 200ft in elevation. Going back home I obviously go back up 200ft. Below are links to my tank logs:
TCH 08 - went to florda from chicago. each tank gave me avarege 550 miles on a highway which is really awsome experience. i only filled up 2 1/2 tank from going to florda from chicago. best car
