TCH floor shift

This is probably a very stupid question but here goes. I am not use to the TCH floor shift. The ones I have seen before had a button lock which you pressed before shifting from one gear to the next to avoid damage. Why doesn't the TCH have the shift lock. Theoretically one can accidentally or a passenger accidently hit the shift and cause damage.

because it has a gated shifter. Auto manufacturers moved to a gated shifter cause it allows them to remove the button, giving a nicer shifter look (and apparently a zigzag shifter looks cool compared to a straight one). I have seen manufacturers move back to a straight one on a new generation where the previous gen had a gated shifter.

It'll be pretty hard to accidentally shift into R I think...
