On Monday, I am going to place an order for a brand new TCH 09, nav equipped with rear lip spoiler, park pilot and side molding. The next batch of TCH cars wont arrive until mid-august since these cars are in such high demand.
My only concern as of this moment is the color. Which do you think would look best for this car between the white and black colors?
I saw both colors in person, both look nice and pictures are not helping me decide. So please give me some reasons either way to help me decide.
I know that White color is in fashion right now, the color also hides dust, scratches, dents better and will keep car cooler in summer.
I know that Black color is always in high demand, its a classic color, will keep car warmer in winter, will hide winter dirt better I guess. Will have better resale value?
Any thoughts and advice will be grealty appreciated. This is the first car I will be buying for the longterm. Thanks.
lol... Black or White... coke or pepsi, PC or Mac.
Yeah it's a tough choice. I think Black looks better just because Alpine White is a little bland (no offense to AW owners!). I think Blizzard Pearl looks a lot better but it was only offered in the States as a 50th Anniversary Edition back in 2007. But then black is high maintenance.
Here are my opinions:
White:
- looks clean even when dirty
- looks quite nice when cleaned and waxed
- easier to maintain
- cooler in the summer
- comes with Ash interior only
- hides scratches and swirl marks
- won't hide scuffs
- stands out in the sea of silver and grey
Black:
- looks fantastic when freshly waxed
- projects a stately image (esp. with the nicely contrasted satin-finished grille)
- hides the foglight covers
- hides scuffs
- will show swirl marks proudly
- scratches wil be visible
- hot in the summer
- looks slick with tinted windows
- has the option of the Bisque interior (black/beige is a nice combo imo)
- I don't believe it has a clearcoat so waxing it yourself might be problematic. Double check with the folks at the Detailing forum
- may blend into the sea of silver and greys
My compromise would be Magnetic Grey lol. I figured white might have a better resale cause it's lower maintenance. Either way, you'll be unique. Take a look at the used car market. How many white or black Toyotas do you see? Not very many. It's one reason why Toyota hasn't been too enthusiastic about giving us rich blacks and whites (except for Blizzard Pearl and Diamond White Pearl both of which are 3-coat paints)

Black looks great, as you know. . .but very high maintenance. Also tends to be hotter. Superb A/C with the "Permacluster" thing is not a gimmick. That should handle the heat fine. White is cooler, but looks like a Cuisinart at times. Silver or the Magnetic have a strong presence and require less care. My two cents.
'Ebony & Ivory, live together in perfect...' - two-tone...Have the black '09 (no fancy styling). Have washed it at home once ('Symonized' - basic wash and wax - all in one formula - with a sheep's glove and then dried with a faux chamois) - still looks sharp (an enviro. buddy was impressed with my 'hybrid limo'...). Collects dust, spruce needles, crow crap, etc., very easily (but so did our Subaru, living out here).
Paint quality is/has been excellent so far - the '09 TCH is only a month and a 1/2 old (I have read ALL the threads about the scuffs, swirls, issues, etc.). Your choice in the end - black is a very classy coloUr when clean - so is white, mind you. Have seen enough silver TCHs to make the whole issue moot...
You'll be happy with either coloUr... It's not about the coloUr, frankly- it's about the FE and cutting down on greenhouse gases...at least out here in the 'dirty oil' west...good luck with yer choice...
I have a picture, but after struggling to copy it on to this post, it will remain in my archive...
Having the same dilemna. I like black better, but I am getting worried I am not a clean enough guy. I have been checking out new black cars on the streets lately, and not too many look spotless, but they still look "beast".
I agree whole heartedly. When I told my dealer I wanted the Super White and NO GREY interior he found it in Knoxville Tennessee, 350 miles away and it came with pin stripes and spoiler which I did not have to pay for. My Buick had solid grey and I was tired of it all. The bisque is a GREAT color and two toned interior and the seats have a pattern. The only way to go!!
Show me some pictures guys, and how come were you able to get Super White with bisque interior?
Here in Canada, you can only get alpine white and black with ash leather. I hate grey color, so depressing.
In the US, you can get either interior with either exterior colour. In Canada, white gets grey only and black had a beige option for 2008 (grey for 2007 only) so I don't know if they changed their minds again and stopped offering beige for 2009 on the black cars.

I believe that most, if not all, the '09s have a grey interior for TCHs destined for Canada (Happy Canada Day!!!) . We test drove the off-black/metallic grey TCH with the light grey leather interior, and received (about 2 weeks later) our black TCH with light grey cloth interior.
Bisque would have been nice, as it matches the black exterior very well - we ended up putting black IKEA fleece blankets on the grey cloth seats so the kids wouldn't 'mess 'em up'... Even my cats love the black TCH (though hesitantly)...
Everyone needs one black car. I had one long ago and never again will I ever do that. Ten minutes after you wash it, it's dirty. White hides dirt. Just my opinion.
