What mode?

I have read about heretical and fuel-cut modes, but over the last week I've noticed something that doesn't quite fit those parameters: as I am in traffic and trying to maintain a speed limit of between 70-80 km I let off the gas and then depress/feather it very lightly, and, voila, arrow shows direct energy flow from the battery (no ICE), and the consumption metre reads 0L/100km (which I have read elsewhere, may indicate fuel-cut mode).

This occurs only on very slight downhills (not enough to coast and be in fuel-cut mode recharging the battery - arrow opposite to above) when I am trying to keep up with the SUVs riding my tail. So what is this mode? Or is this a HSD feature that's been written about before (if so, please post a link).

As soon as the grade evens out, the ICE usually kicks in, but then the consumption drops to around 2.5L/100km (which I am guessing is heretical mode).

This is fuel cut mode since your FE needle is on 0L/100km. Engine spinning but no fuel being used. Drop below 65kph and if the engine stops spinning, then EV mode. In heretical mode the engine is running and using some fuel (yes, possibly your example of running around 2.5 but no guaranteed way to tell without extra instrumentation).
