Newbie Questions

I just picked up my hybrid yesterday and have been amazed at the quality of the fit and finishe as well as all the technology. Just a few questions:

1. Is there a cabin filter that needs to be changed and if so where is it located?

2. Can the "key" be kept in the car (I park in my garage) without having any drain on the battery?

3. Do the doors lock after some period of time if they have not been locked to begin with?

Thanks for the feedback.

1. Yes, there is a cabin filter- it's behind the glove box... there should be instructions in your owners manual that shows you how to change it.

2. No, the key can not be left in the car without running down the remote battery. (some suggest that you can wrap it in tin foil and it will work, but that seems a bit inconvenient) If you leave it in the car, the remote will continue to communicate with the car, running down the remote battery. (look in owners manual for more details in the keys section)

3. No, the doors do not automatically lock after you leave your vehicle. The car will, however, re-lock if you press the unlock button on the remote and don't open a door within 30 seconds.

Hope this answers your questions fully. FYI: For future reference, make sure you use the search feature on this forum. If you don't, there are many other members who will give you a lot of grief and sarcastically (and rudely) yell at you to use the search feature, and they won't actually answer your questions.

Helpful hint: If you've never used a car with the Smart Key System- until you are used to it, make sure you always look at the clock before leaving your car. If the clock is on, you haven't turned off the car yet. If the clock is off, you can be assured that you turned the car off. Some people have complained that it's hard to tell if you've actually turned the car off- and have accidentally left the car ON all day.

Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the Camry Hybrid club!!!

Thank you so much for your responses to my questions but alos your helpful hint. That is great information.

Talking about helpful hints, I wonder if it would be useful for readers of this forum to provide their top one or two hints especially for new owners such as myself.

Thanks again.

This link is to a New Owners Frequently Asked Questions for the Toyota Camry Hybrid on GreenHybrid Forum, a wonderful forum just for Hybrid owners:
http://www.greenhybrid.com/discuss/f...q-2-2-a-16852/

Here is a generic link to the homepage of that website... they have forums for each hybrid model, along with other sub forums:

I just bought a new TCH today. It came with the DVD nav system and leather. I paid $26,696. Is that a good price?

What is that DVD thing it has? I thought it was a dvd player but the dealer said it was not and I can't find anything on it. I don't have the owners manual to look it up because the dealer still has the car because they are cleaning it up.

It's too late asking about price now. You were happy enough to say yes to that amount so be happy with your new ride.

The DVD is only to load the NAV maps, otherwise it is only a 4 CD changer.

The TCH is a wonderful combination of technologies, ENJOY it!

compared to you and others who bought a TCH, I was just curious of how good of a deal I got.

Hard to say since they've "downgraded" the TCH since we bought our '07. Ours came with alloy wheels, the 440 watt JBL sound system w/6 disk CD changer and auto-dimming rear view mirror w/compass - all standard equipment.

In addition we got the power moonroof, heated outside mirrors and the $650 federal tax credit. We paid $28,080 for ours.

The one I got has everything you mentioned except the federal tax credit and it has a 4 disc changer.

The real question is what was the MSRP sticker price in relation to what you paid? On the surface it sound awfully cheap, the price, but if you are missing a whole lot of options, then that would explain it. We got screwed out of the $1,500 rebate as we were not told until ready to sign that we were not getting the rebate because it was a hybrid, then on Feb 3rd it was available. We missed it by a couple of days. Other than that, and the dealer throwing in the wood trim we are very pleased. I will get the 1500 back and more because I file a schedule "C" self employed on next yers tax return plus Pres. Obama has allowed the sales tax to be deductible, which everyone will get.

Oh you can also unlock the car without removing the key fob from your pocket,by reaching for the door handle an pulling it open and lock it back by pressing the black button when you have shut the last door. Cool!

Tint and foggy headlamp question

My new 09 TCH did not come with Tint, which I would like to get installed.

Will installing tint mess with or cause problems with the navi antenna or any of the batteries? When I got tint installed on my cadi a couple years ago they have to remove the leads off the battery because of the auto up/down option on the window.

My TCH is about 3 days old now and I've noticed on the front headlamps there is that foggy mist that is on the inside. It was a bit chilly this morning, which I guess is why the fog showed up. Is that normal? Should I have the dealer replace them?

IMHO I would try and get the dealer to replace them, they definitely have a leak. Both sides did this?
Yes you can have it tinted, ours was done by the dealer by whomever the dealer uses and no it doesn't effect the Nav.
If the dealer had not done it prior to the sale, I would have asked to have it done. The back side rear windows are of course much darker than the front side windows. IMHO have a professional shop or whoever the dealer used to do it. Nothing looks worse than a DIY job on tinting with all the streaks and bubbles.
