Thumbs down Paint Problems

The paint on my 07 hybrid (white) is not holding up well at all. It scrapes easily, which I noted within a month of owning the car. This car is babied (lives in a garage) and has more paint problems than my 12 yr old Toyota Camry that lived outside.

This isn't even addressing the problem of the bumper paint.

Others having this problem?

Mitany,

This has been covered in many forums and does not occur with just Toyota cars. All factory paint systems are being forced to use a water based paint instead of a solvent based paint to eliminate as many VOC's as possible.

They look nice and glossy but do not have the same toughness as our older paint types. The sad fact is our dear government and the EPA have started to eliminate reducer based paints. Right now most body shops are still using the older style of paint but several states have legislation pending to change that.

I just hope the paint industry will come up with new hardeners and paints that can take a minor bump without failing.
