'08 Camry Hybrid - Front doors do not lock

Hello,

Start the car, move the shift lever to 'D', I hear clicking sound of doors getting locked. I think that's the default for smart key. Today, by chance, I tried to open the driver's side door after it was supposedly locked and was surprised to find that it opened as though it was never locked at all. Same with passenger side front door. Rear doors were locked and could not be opened.

Then tried manually locking the doors by pressing the lock button on the inner side of the driver side front door. Hear the clicking sound. But, again when tried to open the door, same thing. Doors open without requiring explict unlock. Car was idling and shift lever was in 'D'. Sounds like a problem to me.

If you have had similiar experience on Camry Hybrid, please share.

My car is still in warranty.

Thanks very much!

That is the way they are supposed to work. The locks on the front doors allow the inside handle to open the doors. From the outside, they are locked. The rear doors must have the locks unlocked to open.

+1, that's why they give you a Owners Manual to read...

There is a slot in the inside door opening on the rear doors for child safety locks, slide the little black bar the other way in the slot and then you can open the rear doors from inside the car.
