Tires Help

I have a 07 Hybrid Camry with 30,000 on it The Bridgestones were history so I shopped. Tire Kingdom installed Yokahoma TRZ seemed like a great rain tire but squirmed on the highway actually felt like they were floating. Back to Tire Kingdom they instructed me that they were S rated tires and the car needed V rated tirs....especially cause of the extra weight. They install Yokahoma AS430's Can't get the vibration out of the chassis tires have been balanced many times rotated and even indexed on the wheels....all to no avail. Anyone got any input?

Try Tirerack.com

You plug your vehicle in, and you can search all of the different tires that fit the Camry Hybrid. Notice, the default setting includes 'H' rated tires. If you want only 'V' and above, you have to switch the search settings.

After reading numerous posts regarding tires, I just ordered Michelin Primacy MXV4 tires from Sam's Club. They are 'H' rated, but most people won't ever notice the difference. (I know I won't) Apparently, the MXV4's are similar to the Michelin tires that were put on some Camrys from the factory, but has better traction year-round, and slightly less rolling resistance.

They were $137 per tire plus $10 per tire installation, including lifetime balance and rotation, road hazard, and lifetime flat tire repair.

Right now, Sam's is running a special on Michelin MXV4's- $80 off the purchase of 4. My total without tax was $515.

VMan,

I had the same experience with Yokos on my 2000 Maxima. They transformed a beautiful handling car in to a greasy pig of a boat. She griped and darted all over the place. The problem is not that they are "S" rated. You should put the same speed rated tires on the car as the OEMs for safety reasons.

30K on OEMs is not too bad. Not the greatest but not too shabby of a wear out, IMHO. FWIW, I'd probably go back for another set of B'stones similar to the ones that came on the car. They are not too pricey and probably the cost/mile is nearly the same as a more expensive set that gets better wear out.

If you haven't already done so... putting a few more PSI in the tires may extend their life by a couple more thousands.

Sorry, I meant to say that the MXV4's have slightly more rolling resistance. (They are not listed as a low rolling resistance tire, and therefore might get slightly less mpg.) Given that they have a much better warranty, much improved handling and grip, and are significantly less expensive than the Energy tires, I'll deal with the loss of 1-2 mpg.
