Nav System freeze out....

I've noticed that the navigation system freezes out a fairly wide set of features when the car is in motion.

I can only assume this is another "feature" designed to keep stupid people safe or more to the point to keep Toyota safe from lawsuits brought by stupid people who crash into buildings or lakes while looking at the nav screen.

Anyways, it's bloody annoying because I have this really nifty feature I like to use. It's called a passenger. This "passenger" is a fully autonomous entity capable of carrying out independent actions even while the car is in motion. So if I'm cruising down I95 and decide a Starbucks sounds good, in theory my "passenger" could interface with the navigation system using it's own built-in fingertip pointer and locate the nearest store.

However the system will not allow that since the car is in motion, so I have to come to a complete stop in the center lane of I95. While this does allow the Nav system to function, I have discovered that other drivers tend to take exception to my stopping dead in the middle of a major highway even for something as important as getting directions to the nearest Starbucks.

So I was wondering if there is a way to disable this "feature" of the nav system locking out while the car is in motion?

Indeed, search is my friend. Unfortunitly in this case it did not go where I had hoped.

In fact there was an override built into the Toyota nav system up until 2007 when it was removed.

You can find details here.

Override

On the gen5/6 forums and Tundra forums, there are several threads on burning new map files with the old kwi files to do the override. I bought a burned dvd from someone on the gen5/6 forums with the override. It's a pain in the butt and easier for me to just stop and program the nav. You and search those forums for the guy selling the map dvd.
