Bridgestone Turanza Snow Performance

In a word - terrible.

Our '07 TCH came equipped with Turanzas on 16" alloy rims. Despite the sophisticated VDIM controls, this combination simply doesn't exude any confidence at all.

Our '92 Camry with no vehicle stability (but optional ABS) now has Goodyear Assurance Comforts has much better traction in snow.

With only 20k miles on the TCH, I'm not in a hurry to replace the OEM tires but don't want to get into a problem costing a lot more than a set of new tires. Perhaps it's time for a set of steel rims and Blizzaks?

Same here.........

Went with Michelin Primacy Alpin PA3 snow tires and you would think we had a completely different vehicle.

Winter tires

I'll second the vote for Michelin Primacy Alpin PA3 snow tires on steel rims for snow and ice conditions.

Geeze, do you guys get a commission from Michelin or what?

All kidding aside, I just ordered a set of four mounted and balanced Primacy Alpin PA3 tires and steel rims via TireRack. Being FedEx'd to arrive either on the 24th or 26th.

Just hope the wife can keep the car out of a ditch until then. We woke up to a -11ºF air temp this morning... At those temps, the car exhaust will refreeze on the pavement creating wicked black ice conditions.

Appreciate the replies - thanks!

They're Here....

A new set of mounted & balanced Michelin Primacy Alpin PA3 XL tires arrived this afternoon. I got the old ones off and bolted on the new ones. And yes, I did pay attention to the rotation markings.

Guess what...? For the first time in over a month, it's above freezing today. Our roads are all bare and wet. I was pleasantly surprised they were as quiet as they were. The Tirerack folks had a warning when I submitted the order these tires have a slightly higher load capacity than the stock Turanzas so the ride may be a bit harsher. I took them up to the local filling station and adjusted the pressure to 36 lbs.

Hopefully I'll get some real snow again to give them a proper evaluation.

I have had excellent experience with Hakkapilita snow tires. I bought my Highlander new in 01' and put stutted Hakk's on and put them on this past fall for the 8th winter. All I can say is unbelievable, they are so awesome in the snow/ice there is nothing that compares. I put them on my 07 Camry Hybrid with steel rims fromt the Tire Rack and wouldn't have it any other way.
