Ok im new here but i have two hybrids and wanted to get some answers on a few things. 1) why don'tthey have fog lights on these things? I didnt even have an option when i bought my 07TCH.
2) i have the nav system with the 6.1 disc and ABSOLUTELY HATE THE lock out functino. i can't call it a feature because to not be able to use the blue tooth function and be forced to use even smaller keys on my actual phone is a safety issue. So how do i override this?
I too am perplexed by the lack of a fog light option. I live in the mountains and fog is pervasive when you are constantly changing altitude. I have read about some people adding fogs after0 the fact, but it seems unduly complex.
As far as the nav system goes, give up. There are some hacks but they are more of a hassle than it is worth. My nav is turned to the screen off setting and I use a Garmin. Even when the safety gods that come in the car let you interface with the system, it is worng so often I just never use it. The nav system is the single most frustrating part of this vehicle.
My '08 didn't have fog lights either. Found some on ebay. They really ain't that hard to install. I know nearly nothing about wiring and the lights didn't come with instructions but I was able to figure it out fairly easily. The pictures showing how to install them are gone but I can pretty much talk you through it. Here's a pic of my TCH with fogs.
Fog lights are not offered on the hybrid, I don't know why. I use fogs a lot myself because we live out in the country. Bought a set on Ebay for about $60. A nice addition that adds a nice look too.
You have to add a switch if you want one. I put mine by my right knee. Not a lot of places easy to get to for adding a switch. Others have spliced into the line for their low beams. I can run mine when I want, even though supposedly it is illegal without your low beams. I have never heard of anyone being pulled over for it. As a former cop, it is a waste of time unless they are not adjusted properly and are blinding on coming traffic.
Please tell me what you did for the install of fog lights. I have read some where they couldn't find any pre drilled screw holes to mount the four screws into that came with the light kit? Also where into the wiring do you plug these in? How about power to them? None except the $91 dollar ones on eBay offer any instructions. I think we are suppose to have the HID package, but I cannot find the ballasts, any idea where they are mounted?

Reason: spelling
After I got mine installed, the guy that helped me said I could have gotten some at Walmart and they would have worked just as well. I installed mine but needed help getting power to them. I had a bad ground and also blew one of the bulbs, although I have no idea how I did it. Mine are wired directly into the low beams so they stay on whether I have low beams on or high beams. Any auto accessory store can install them and they can wire directly into the headlights or add a switch.

I got this reply from Al:
Yours is probably Ver 08.1. Ours is Ver 9 with or without the speed lockout override so you can use the Nav while moving. Also have the Rostra backup mirror that interfaces with the Nav. payable through Paypal.
Non oem DVD for your car is $93 payable to Paypal. cruisin@live.com
AL
Anyone done business with him?

Ours has a blue tooth function with microphone built in to the ceiling. Yours does not? It is suppose to allow us the push a bluetooth button on the steering wheel and do voice commands to call someone in our saved phone numbers which as I understand it will load into the Nav as we go thru the bluetooth set up. We have not done it as my wife says it's too much right now as she is still learning how to drive this car after 23 yrs in a Suburban?
Sorry I have not been on in a long time. All the install points were behind the front bumper cover on my 2008. The same bumper cover is used whether it is a hybrid or not. Had no problems installing them. There is only one or two screws on each light, I can't remember now. I also put a wire tie on it as a safety behind the bumper cover. Hope you have been able to get yours installed.
I installed my switch by my right knee in the lower dash panel. Ran power for the switch from the AUX plug in in the console through the hole where the main wiring harness comes through the fire wall. It is in the center of the dash. Had to disassemble the dash in front of the gear selector. Easy enough. Just be careful pulling the wires through the fire wall. Fused the hot wires under the dash and under the hood. Ran wires out to a relay I installed under the hood. The main power I pulled from the main lug in the fuse box in front of the drivers side wheel well under the hood to the relay. Then wired from the relay to the lights. Works well and I cannot accidently leave them on because the power from the AUX plug is off when the car is off. If you have it on AUX power to listen to the radio or something waiting for someone they will work. No big deal for me they are switched and I can run them whenever I want to.
