USA how to remove the steering wheel from a 08 Camry Hybrid?

Hello,
I bought a matching steering wheel to go with the wood dash I installed, is there any write ups on how to remove the steering wheel from a 08 Camry Hybrid?
Thanks Mark

Search the regular Camry forum for instructions or follow your Service Manual.

We put the wheels on about 2 years ago.

Mars,

1) Park the car with the front wheels straight and the steering column straight in the car.
2) Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
3) Go inside, get a coke and wait 5 minutes to continue. The book says 90 seconds but with my luck, I give it a few extra. This will allow the airbag system to de-energize and NOT ruin your day.
4) Remove the steering wheel pad.
5) Remove the steering wheel retaining nut.
6) Disconnect the spiral cable assembly.
7) Using a 2-bolt wheel puller, remove the steering wheel.
8) Align the new wheel to a “straight ahead” position and place over the steering shaft.
9) Reverse the steps to finish the install.

Make sure the battery is connected last.

BUY A MANUAL. Yes, they are expensive but then again, so is a mistake made by not having one.

Good luck.

Edit: Forgot to mention that the steering wheel retaining nut should be torqued to 50Nm (37 ft. lbs.). You might also need to perform an initialization of the system for custom programing and don't forget to re-do the radio pre-sets.

I would add that you can loosen the steering wheel nut to almost coming off and the using the thick part of your hand go around the steering wheel bumping it out. You must keep the nut on to keep the wheel from flying off into your face. Be sure you place the air bag on the ground away from you with the airbag face up in case it should go off, it will not become a flying projectile.

I suggest you go to the dealer and have them put it on.........The entire safety of you, your passengers, and all on the road near you are at stake. Just my 2cents....

Well you have more faith in a $10 hr mechanic, than your own ability to do it right. Usually this kind of stuff gets relegated to accessory people and who knows what will happen? I know when I do something, I do it right. If it is out of my ability, then I take it to the dealer and have a Toyota certified mech. do the work, which is mostly internal engine or A/C work. As in this case now, Hybrid work! If you can't change your own brake pads then no you should be trying to work on your car IMHO.

That's true about anything when you don't know what you are doing.

The tech is just going to follow the instructions. Whether you can do that is questionable....
