Recently I got in a minor accident with my 50th ANV TCH. I was about to trade it in for a new Toyota until the dealer hit me with Its got a dirty Title...because of the accident. Since they cannot sell it as a certified Toyota dimished value is $ 5000.00. So you tell me people I have a 2007 TCH 50th ANV with 39,000 mi and new Michelins does the dealer really think I am going to giove it to them for 12,500.00. I am wrong here Anyone have the same problem
Take it as a negotiation ploy on the part of the dealer and work from there, or work with another dealer.
On another site, people recommended going to CarMax and getting your car appraised as a cash sale to them. It gives you a good idea what the dealer should be paying for your trade.

I tried the CarMax route before trading in my 2003 Corolla S and getting a 2009 Camry Hybrid. CarMax only offered $6,000 when Edmunds TMV was $7,258. I then went to the dealer and they came with an initial trade offer of $6,000 as well. After negotiations I ended up getting $7,250 on the trade (obviously could have gotten more in a private party sale but did not want to deal with random people driving my car and coming to my house). My point is that CarMax will probably try to low-ball you as well and do it all behind the guise of their "no-haggle" pricing. It does not take long, so maybe it is worth a shot, but I would not hold out high hopes of getting a much better deal from them. I would recommend negotiating with the dealership (or selling the car privately). I'm sure you can do better than their initial offer in either instance.

Your insurance adjuster happily offered you money for "Diminished value", right?
Often overlooked, but even if the car is fixed, it's value has been diminished.
I was rear-ended in my Camry Hybrid last fall. The damage didn't appear too bad (as you can see in the pics) but it still came out to about $1300 worth of repairs.
When it was all said and done I inquired about filing a diminished value claim with the responsible party's insurance company. They had my car inspected after repairs were completed and made me get an appraisal from a local dealer to find out how much less they would pay me due to the accident if I were to trade the car in. I had a hard time getting the used car lot manager to even talk to me since I wasn't buying anything from him, but eventually he gave me a figure, in this case $2000 to $2500. I turned all of that into the insurance and they offered me $2250 for diminished value. Considering the damage was less than that and that the body was not tweaked I thought that was more than fair of them. Not sure if any of this helps you or not, but just thought I'd give you a real-world example.
This is very disheartening. Last weekend, I parked my car at a golf course where I got side swiped by a van that was parked next to me. The only damage was the drivers side door panel below the molding strip and a small scratch on the mirror. The guy who hit me came forward and said he would take care of it.
The first estimate I received was 1450.00. The second was 2400.00. The third guy, a small independent body shop said he could blend the paint and get the dent out for 350.00. I know people are proud of their cars and want things done right, but some of these shops are so used to the numbers they hand out that they think nothing of a 2000.00 ticket.
Do not get me wrong, I want my car fixed right, but the damage to the panel is so minor(in my opinion) that I would not pay someone $$$$ to get it fixed, even if it is not my own money.
