TCH Console and Dash rattles?

I am having a MAJOR problem with rattles in my console. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you get it fixed if you even did? My dealer has replaced the area around the shifter twice and it got worse. I can put about 10 lbs of downward pressure or pull the chrome bezel to one side or the other and it stops.

I'm guessing you have a 2007. Many 2007 Camry owners have complained of interior squeaks and rattles. Most are fine, but if you're lucky enough to get one with rattles, it's annoying and depending on the rattle and dealership repair quality, they can be tough to get rid of.

There are TSBs for most of them. I thought there was one for the shifter, but I don't see it on the list in the sticky. (CLICK HERE FOR TN LIST)

I had the shifter squeak/rattle shortly after taking delivery- the dealer fixed and it never returned. They put some felt down and 32,000 miles later it still hasn't returned.

Unfortunately, mine still has the original moonroof rattle a bit on really cold days (It isn't bad enough or frequent enough to request a repair per the TSB)... and my dash rattle has returned and is worse than ever. I'm almost out of warranty, and I plan on taking it to the dealer again soon.

Luckily, many people on this forum have no or very few of these problematic rattles or squeaks.

I guess it just stinks to be one of the few with frequent rattles.

If you search (It might be buried deep within the Gen 5/6 forum) for shifter rattle or console rattle, I remember someone did a self-fix and did a tutorial with pictures to show how they fixed it several years ago.

If your current dealer is unable to fix, I suggest you try a different dealer, or contact Toyota to see if they can communicate with the dealer a more effective solution.

Good luck, unfortunately a rattle or two can really take a really nice car like the TCH and make it seem like a piece of crap until it is fixed.

I bore down through all of the posts yesterday and did find the fix you are talking about. However the pictures had been removed from the site. I took a apart the shifter area and looked at how everything fit together and was very dissapointed at the lack of insulating of connecting surfaces. I found three areas that did not have felt (what a joke the felt that was installed is) and took some silicon and put very light beads around certain areas (upper left joint in front of shifter were the bezel engages the compartment under the HVAC controls as well as the two trim pieces running vertical on either side) and let it dry to a tack and then reinstalled the pieces. I drove it for about an hour on the bumpiest rounds I could find and the squeeks are gone. There is still one annoying sound that I will find today and fix and that is something loose above that compartment under the HVAC controls. So far I have been extremely un happy with the quality of craftsmanship on this car. This is my first Toyota (always bought Fords - and why not as my father is a retired Ford employee and we get them for less than dealer invoice) but thought I would see what Toyota was all about. I have had every vehilce ford has offered and never and I mean never had a squeek or a rattle of any kind in 29 years of owning them. Even the bottom of the line Escort never rattled. The drive trains on the Toyotas might last forever but the enterior on this one may not. I also have had the covers of the side airbags on the window pillars pop off just drivign down the Highway. So to sum it all up, this will be my first and only Toyota I will ever buy. Thanks for the reply, much appreciated!!!!

I have a 2007 and also thought my old car was so much quieter and free of all rattles and squeaks. Then I drove my old car and noticed it had a ton of rattles and squeaks--I just didn't notice them because the engine was so much louder than the hybrid's.

Consumer Reports scored nearly all of the 2007 Toyota's as poor for noises and rattles. I bought a brand new Avalon that rattled so much that I couldn't take it anymore and sold it after 13 months.

My 2009 has a rattle under the a/c vents and around the door underneath the NAV door. Can you tell me where you put the silicon again?

Thanks, JS

The 2 vertical posts that run down the side under the AC controls pop off and you can put 2 to 3 beads of silicon about 2 inches long on the exposed surface inboard and out board and let it tack up before you install them again. As well as the bezel around the console, you must take it out and you can apply silicon around the tang areas. Do not put it on the bezel, rather the area under the bezel. Do not go heavy on the amount, make the beads around 1/8 to 3/16 thick in height, other wise it makes it very diffiicult to reinstall everything.
