Blue Hue on Instrument Cluster?

ok, so my wife and I have tried to figure out what why the blue hue around the speed and econ gage comes on? It seems to come on and go off on it's own while were driving at night. Anyone know why this happens? Is it an indication of something that's going on with the car or should it be on all the time and I need to take it to the dealer?
car is a 2009 TCH

Welcome to the Forum and Congrats on your TCH...

This is normal. The Hue gets brighter as your mpg increases. I don't remember the exact formula (3 hue brightness levels as I recall- 20/25/30 mpg ) , but when you are getting over 30mpg the blue hue is at it's brightest...
The Hue will reset to OFF when you power off your TCH , like when you stop for gas , then gradually increase as your mileage improves. It also seems to parallel the bar graph consumption gauge segments.

This is another way the TCH keeps you informed of your driving style...

Sorry for the late reply, but I'll verify that you got a good answer from the previous poster. I still love my TCH, but this has to be one of the goofiest features I've ever seen on a car. Only the guys who brought us the Godzilla movies of the 1950s and 60s could have thought of this (and then actually installed it on a production car. . .). Every once in a while, when I'm in the mood, I take the "blue" as a "reverse challenge" and try to drive so "fuelishly" that the blue goes away. It's actually pretty difficult to make it disappear once it's there.
