Installing factory nav

Hey guys.

If I buy a factory nav unit for a camey hybrid will it be a plug and play installation or will o run into difficulties? Please don't post a response if it's just going to shoot down my question... Any poistive responses will be appreciated.

Thanks

Drew

Around 650 bust cost isn't the issue it's weather or not is as simple swapping them out. No extra wiring

eBay. But it's all a waste of time and money if it's not
simply plug and play

Honestly, I have done research just like you.
You will need to make sure of several things...
First, there are maybe 3-4 cables that are inside the car SOMETIMES, that are not plugged up to your OEM unit, that connect tothe GPS (brake\speed sensor thingamajingy) and then you need to make sure to purchase the GPS antennae for the unit...

Stuff is a hastle, and after calling around to a couple of dealerships, they act like they are totally retarded in regards to parts...

Got my factory NAV installed last month from my local dealer, bought the NAV during XMAS saleout for my 07 XLE. And, boy I really love it ! Here are the details, and again my car is not the Hybrid, but with the factory JBL Headunit.

All Canadian prices:

C0069-33010-W2 - Aux & Steering - $40
C0069-33010-W3 - Mic Connector - $10
PU069-32777-G5 - $490 Main Unit - $380
PU069-33010-W7 - Wire Harness - $5
86271-53023 - DVD Maps - $206.25
- 641.25 + TAX (83.36 = $724.61

you can save $206 from maps if you use torrents as your best friend.

+ 2 hours installation on top of price of course.

BTW: 1 year ago, in spring 2009, this system was priced at $2900 what a rip-off. Mind you I have a TomTom GO, but you know what, I don't have to continually attach the bugger to my
windshield everytime I drive away. There are increasing smash and grab thefts happening around town anyways with portable units. I'll use my TomTom for my 85 Celica during summer months but would still have to hide it anyways.

hope this helps.

Same problem NEED HELP BAD!

Did you ever try and install the unit? I am going through the same thing except I purchased a JBL Factory OEM Nav with the amp and antennae for my 2007 camry se (I also bought a steering wheel with the bluetooth controls, but I come to find out that my non jbl factory stereo has a completely different wire harness. I need serious help and can't find anything on line or from the dealership or anything. I live in L.A. for crying out loud, there has to be some custom shop here that can do it...any one know? Thanks in advance.

I did the installation last December. Or more correctly, Tahir Mallick did it for me. I purchased the unit from him on ebay and he happened to be in town to help with the install. The car is a 2009 Hybrid with factory non-nav JBL and the new nav unit is a 2011. He did have to do some re-wiring. Mostly re-jumpering in the moldex connectors. The "hybrid" information does not show, but everything else works perfectly. Hope that helps.

i understand thread is outdated.
i have 07 with JBL and OEM nav. i drive around with dashboard mounted GPS. i had more trouble with directions provided to me by nav unit, than i had use out of it. i use other features, that i do, but not driving directions. it's beyond me, how retarded it all is.

hey, if YOU are happy with the way it guides you, or with all the push this and that to even get to the guidance - amen and stay that way.

for me easily doing over 2000 miles a month seeing patients all over the places, it drove me into traps or ran in circles, or told me to "consult with map"(f-k, if i need to consult with map, why do i need that piece of electronics?) so many times, that i simply gave up and slapped GPS on dashboard. NOTHING is more humiliating than having THE NAVIGATION, calling patient, asking for their address, telling them "my nav will guide me to your doorstep, no worries" and then sitting somewhere in the dead end, calling them again for directions.

Had the dealership install everything, works like a charm.

http://sleekaman.webs.com/index.htm scroll down 3/4 way, and you'll see that wonderful
factory Nav.
