'09 TCH--Eighteen Months Later

HELLO--Just a quick update. Could not be happier since driving the '09 TCH since June 2008. Approximately 21,000 miles--zero (0) problem area. Mileage has averaged between 33 and 34 mph overall, with a tank-full low of 28+ (all urban driving) and a high of 37+ (900 mile Interstate trip from Georgia to Western New York). Low maintenence costs, accurate navigation system, terrific service department, comfy ride. Nothing more to ask. Best Wishes--CARL

I'm 22 months and 52000 miles and not a single issue. Service every 5000 miles and the only thing I did was have them put nitrogen in the tires...which didn't change a thing as far as I can tell. I average 39.1 miles per gallon with a combination of urban and rural driving. Hope I don't jinks myself.....LOL

You must drive pretty aggressively to get such bad mileage! I have had my 2009 TCH almost two years and love it as much as ever. I have Wally World change the oil/filter every 5000 miles using Mobil 1 5/20, cleaned cabin air filter myself & just replaced engine air filter myself. One new tire bought at Sam's due to damage to the side from ?

Used service department only for issue with garage door opener but they knew no more than I did as to resolving the issue.

One addon - Backup camera done by local audio shop.

My foot is slightly heavy (to say the least), as is my almost constant use of the climate control (Atlanta can be that way). Still, in a relative sense, the mileage is far better than any non-hybrid gas car I've driven (the several diesel VW Rabbits I had in the '80s got more, but that's a different story). I also use the dealership service department, because it's so good (not something I could say about most of the GM and Ford dealerships I've run across, except Saturn).

My 2009 hybrid camry went through some funny and rather poor mileage issue during this winter storm here in MN. its 2.5 yrs since new, i am average 505 miles to the tank when fill, now it only show 400 miles on the computer. Also notice the average mpg per tank drop from 39 to 27. Its very strange since i took my camry to dealer and they put in 5w30 since. Now i put 0w20 back in there with no difference. I am wandering if the hybrid computer reprogrammed a different parameter in there somehow. Also, hybrid battery drain completely this winter, i saw the bullentine for 2007 hybrid reset and try that too, still no help.

I am just east of you in Wisco, is Farve done or up for another? We do not miss him.

I am getting like 28 mpg's this winter. What gives, otherwise it is a fine car!

2008 TCH- gave me an average of 37 mpg this winter so far here in Ontario Canada.
As soon as the temperature touched 0°C, mpg rose to 39.5.

Ah! Atlanta. That explains it. Every time we go there to visit the kids, my mleage goes way down. Combination of too much start/stop and driving more aggressively to keep up with the locals.

Install an engine block heater (EBH). Always use ECO mode. Even in NC in a car kept in the garage, it makes a big difference in mileage especially on short trips. I think 90% of the gas on short trips is used just to warm up the car.

After using EBH, even in the coldest of weather, I pull out of garage, drive downhill to stop sign corner, turn left to stop sign (total about 800 feet) and the ICE will turn off when I stop.

Wow, thank you for sharing the information. I always wonder what mileage do other TCH owners get. I own a 2010 TCH and has around 17000km on it. No problem so far, just had my 16000km oil change at a local garage. Am I supposed to do the tire rotation as well for this maintenance schedule? Anyway, I don't think it was done. Hope it's not a big deal. I averaged around 7.1km/100L. How do you guys get 6km/100L? That's so great! I am a girl and often am very cautious on not stomping on the gas pedal. I am not sure why the mileage is not as good as what you guys are getting. I have eco-mode on all the time as well. Maybe there are too many hills here in BC?

maybe. or it's too cold. HSD apparently is super sensitive to colder weather. why HSD needs to be kept warm beats me.
but anyhow, guy, it's American forum for the most part. even I, immigrant from human measurements in metrics country, can't tell what is 6/100 in gall/mile. would ya? i mean, at 36mpg, because gallon is roughly 3.6L, it's about m10 miles to a liter, or 16km to a liter. how that transfers into liters to kilometers.....

mine really liked K&N air filter. i saw immediate and solid improvement, until it hit winter times.

Hahaha, sorry about that. I can do the calculation for you, no problem, being an actuary shouldn't have any problems doing calculation like that! It's around 33mpg, so that's not as good as what people have said here, like 37-39mpg.
