Engine Start

My 2009 TCH has 27,000 miles on it. When it was new sitting parked the gas engine would stop and restart seamlessly. Now with some miles on it, when the gas engine restarts it is kinda rough at startup. Even when the engine stops, it has a small shutter. Is this normal?

Cold, nasty, wet weather????? If all was well before these last couple weeks of really snotty weather, I'd suggest that its the weather. Cold & damp... or very cold weather over a few days makes every thing work differently. Especially very cold weather. Could be that the ICE's fuel management map is in the twilight zone. Engine's warm but cold enough to need a richer mixture that the EMC isn't providing.

These engines don't have a 'carburetor heat' function in the intake system. Being fuel injected, its not believed you need it. And that's true for maybe 99.9999% of the time. It could be that there's some ice forming around the butterfly valve in the intake system ... because the engine doesn't get to and stay hot enough to keep it clean.

Just a wacky thought...

I'd drive it till you get better weather and see if it improves. (And as long as its not tossing a code and MIL light, its probably A-OK!)

Cheers!

Forgot to add. Our '09 does this once in awhile for a short time. Then it goes away... nothing has come of it.

These hybrid systems are really great but complicated....I've no idea what the hell its doing most of the time. Either on or off. I've quit worrying about it...
