Toyota Temporarily Suspends Sales of Selected Vehicles
Toyota Canada Inc (TCI) announced that it is instructing Toyota dealers to temporarily suspend sales of the eight models involved in the recall for sticking accelerator pedal, announced on January 21, 2010. Toyota is making every effort to meet the needs of customers and this decision will enable TCI to coordinate activities and expedite the accelerator pedal repairs for customers as quickly as possible.
Toyota will recall approximately 270,000 vehicles to correct sticking accelerator pedals on specific Toyota Division models. Toyota has investigated isolated reports of sticking accelerator pedal mechanisms in certain vehicles without the presence of floor mats. There is a possibility that certain accelerator pedal mechanisms may, in rare instances, mechanically stick in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position.
Toyota's accelerator pedal recall and suspension of sales is confined to the following Toyota Division vehicles:
2009-2010 RAV4,
2009-2010 Corolla,
2009-2010 Matrix,
2005-2010 Avalon,
Certain 2007-2010 Camry,
2010 Highlander,
2007-2010 Tundra,
2008-2010 Sequoia
No Lexus Division or Scion vehicles are affected by these actions. Also not affected are Toyota Prius, Tacoma, Sienna, Venza, Solara, Yaris, 4Runner, FJ Cruiser, and select Camry models, including all Camry hybrids.
As a novice, why would the pedal on the regular gas Toyota Camry be different than on the TCH?
It has to do with the parts supplier. In this case the TCH is made in Japan and most of the Camrys here are made in US and the part is made here too from what I've read.
Yes yoru Hybrid was made in Kentucky. There are 2 lines in KY. One does Camrys and Avalons with the CTS pedal. I guess the other line does Camrys, Cam Hybrids and I believe Venzas....and they have the Denso pedal. So your Hybrid should have the pedal that is not under recall, even though it is built in the US.
I have a Camry buitl in KY but it came off line 2 so I have the Denso pedal..my Highlander has the Denso as it was made in Japan, but alas my Corolla has the CTS pedal as it was made in California

It is my understanding the Denso pedal is made in Japan and is on all TCH made in the USA at Georgetown, Kentucky so it is not on recall......
I am the owner of a 2009 Toyota Camry SE. I have experienced my gas pedal getting stuck ("slower to return") for a few seconds - on at least 3 different occasions, and all occurred on the freeway.
I took my Camry to a dealership today and they say my pedal is made by the Japanese manufacturer and not part of the recall. I'm still waiting to get the results of their inspection - but just curious if others have experienced this issue with Japanese manufactured pedal.
I also thought that the Japenese made TCH's were not impacted by this recall. However, when I took the car in for service, they told me that it was subject to the recall, and replaced the pedal. The Toyota web page says:

Highlander Hybrids and Camry Hybrids are not involved in the sticking accelerator pedal recall.
I think that the myriad of recalls is all very confusing and the Toyota team would serve the public well by having a online VIN number check tool on the website.

It is my understanding the TCH is ON RECALL ONLY to replace the accelerator with a shorter one and that is all.
How do I find out if my TCH was made in Japan or Kentucky??? Would I have to ask the dealership or is there a way of determining this by the VIN or something. I have a 2009 and I purchased it in Florida, I don't know if that means anything or not.
