Camry HybridDiscussion area for the Toyota Camry Hybrid. Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving Americas favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a 2008 Camry hybrid with 34800k on the odometer
Leather, dual power leather heated sets , NAVI , Bluetooth , JBL etc.
So we picked up a used 2006 sequoia to replace another older SUV & I have a
2007 Altima 2.5 SL with 57k to commute in.
Need to sell one of the cars but which one ??
I figured the TCH because it's newer & lower mileage but those don't seem to be selling here in the Houston market. I'd like to keep the TCH but figured the Altima with almost 60k wouldn't sell as well.
Would you keep the TCH & feel confident about the car after 100k+ miles ????
I put at least 22k on a car a year commuting so the gas savings with TCH could be significant: $250-450 annually depending on fuel prices .
How many TCH's are on the board with 100k + miles ???
any significant problems after the 100k + mile barrier ? battery replacement ??
Personally I would have no trouble with keeping the TCH after 100k miles. When I worked for one of the Toyota dealers here we had very many Prius's (1st and 2nd gen) with 100-150k miles. We've had one or two TCH's with over 100k miles. The most impressive was when we had a 2006 Highlander Hybrid come in with 265k miles.
Personally, I will not keep the TCH after the warranty is expired (my extended warranty runs until 120,000 miles). To me the risk of failure is too great.
If helpful, my 2008 TCH w/ Nav is running great with no problems at 77K miles. Just one set of tires replaced last year.
I'd hang on to it; check out gas prices going up again...

I have see Priuses (propped plural spelling?) with almost 400k on them get sold for everyday use. Toyota overbuilt everything in the drivetrain of these cars to make sure they last- alot is riding on them. Just keep up with maintenance. I have 68,000 HARD miles on my TCH and other than dash rattles, she literally drives better than new (not as stiff) and averages 42 mpg in moderate weather.

I have to disagree, this car has caused me more headaches than any other vehicle that I have owned before. When this one runs out of warranty, I am running to the Ford dealer. Hate is not a strong enough word to describe how I feel about this car.
If you think you have had problems with the TCH (Yes, why can't they fix the dash rattles), enjoy the Fix Or Repair Daily!
I bought a '99 F250 SD new and it was great for the first 62K miles. The next 32K miles incurred $14K in abnormal repairs, starting when the steering knuckle broke and almost put me in the concrete barrier at 60 MPH, other miscellaneous stuff, rusted thru steel brake lines, rusted thru rear differential cover, $3K to replace the head (6 weeks later, 600 miles from home) when a spark plug stripped the head when it blew out right after the dealer inspection reported a small exhause leak that went away as soon as the truck heated up (Hmm maybe if they had tightened the spark plug?) and then $8K when the bottom end seized in the motor. All this on a truck that had synthetic oil changes every 7500 miles. On both the head and engine problems, it took me 5 minutes on the internet to find out they were generic problems and Ford basically tells you to go -- yourself. I don't count the muffler, frozen calipers rotors, etc in the $14K because I consider those normal for NH winter driving.

Sir, with all due respect, this is an enthusiast site for people who love their toyota's, and more specifically, this section is for TCH enthusiasts. What good are you doing your self or anyone else coming on here and simply talking badly about the said car?*

While I agree that this site is for TCH's, I disagree that we only want to hear the good about the cars. I want to know what problems I may encounter and possibly what the solutions are.
Obviously I gave Razol my experience and opinions on Fords. It was because people on the Ford sites told of their problems and I knew that I had generic problems. I let others with the same vehicle know of these problems so they could prevent the problems or sell the vehicle before they ran into the $ repair I experienced.
well I reluctantly sold our 2008 TCH a couple months ago with 33k on the odo
it was a good vehicle that averaged 37+mpg but ultimately my wife wanted something roomier again so we sold the high mileage Avalanche and the TCH & bought a used 4wd Sequoia that we love !!!
i still had lingering concerns with the TCH for post 100k & need to keep a car like that for at least 150k
had a helluva a time selling the TCH hear in Houston though
if it had been a 4cylinder XLE we would have sold it fast but in TX hybrids seem to be as popular as tofu
im stuck commuting in my 07 Altima , not as nice as the Camry
