Nah, I heard rumors of a true gas/electric hybrid engine option being available in the Camry as soon as '07.
I'd jump on it as my current camry will be 12 by then and marrage is more of a money guzzeling enterprize than building and driving any of my V8's.

They better hurry up...Honda is releasing a Hybrid Accord this fall! Crazy thing is that they will be using the V6 240hp engine for the hybrid. It'll get mileage like a Honda Civic. As well, they'll be sticking in some VCM technology, which shuts down 3 cylinders at highway speeds.

The last time there was an engine that shut down a set amount of cylinders at highway speeds, it was a disaster. GM tried it in the late 70s, early 80s in an engine called the 4-6-8 that would run as a V8, V6, or V4 depending on the speed.
Honda might be able to get it right, but three cylinders running on a V6? I hope they get the counter-balancing right, because that seems like it would run rough. Makes more sense to have it run as a V4.
As long as it gets decent milage w/o the system engaging like its supposed to... the accord crowd would not care! I would not care myself either.....just as long as milage was decent. Yeah, I've heard that there might be a hybrid camry coming soon (2007)...However, toyota is emphasising on the release of RX400 (luxury hybrid's) and then the hybrid highlander...and i'm guessign judging by those successes/failures..teh camry release date could be pushed forward/late! so look out for those first.
Here's an excerpt to address Kensuke's issue, I like the last paragraph.
Quote:
When operating in three-cylinder mode, engine vibration is reduced by extrapolating vibration from the change in crankshaft rotation speed and sending the information to an "active control" engine mounting that compresses/extends an actuator in same-phase, same-period motion to dampen the movement.
Similarly, a speaker creates an opposite phase sound for a quieter interior. The driver, Honda says, will be left unaware of changes in cylinder activation.
i see bad things happening to that system in the future.
but hey it will be their fault. i rebuilt a cadilac devile v4-8-6 motor and it couldn't run correctly no matter what i tried so i converted it to an all the time v8 but if everything is electronicly controlled there will be recalls. honda just wants to stay away from hybrids cause their insight looked funny and didn't sell
both GM and Chrysler are introducing VCM V8's this yr or next, i believe the Chrysler one comes out a couple months before the GM, in i think the 300C. not sure what the GM one comes out in, i wanna say GTO, but that doesn't sound right. They had a nice demo of the GM one at the Detroit auto show.
