When I registered my wife's "new" 2011 Camry Hybrid at the Toyota Owners' website, the service records showed that the car was initially PDIed by the Toyota dealership almost a year ago (4/20/2010)! Even though the car looks and runs great, and I paid what I believe was a fair price, should I be concerned that I've put my wife into "old", new car?

Where the 2011 hybrids available in April of 2010??? Could it be a 2010??? I would check.....good luck....
The VIN, window sticker, verbal representations by dealer, etc. all indicate that the TCH is a 2011 model, but the service records at Toyota Owners website show the original PDI & "E2 Package" were performed on 04/20/10. The implication is that the dealer got the car almost a year ago and it's been "sitting around" every since. Any way to get actual manufactured date?
you boys don't know that "2011 models" are rolled out actually in 2010? really? well, neither did i, until i found it. next year models start running out around late spring to maybe mid summer, definitely towards fall of a year PREVIOUS to the advertised model year. it's standard sales bs, like huge bags of chips, 50% of them containing air, or $3.45(99) gas price. we all know it's 3.46, just makes us feel better
I bought mine at the end of Sept and my '11 arrived at my dealer in late April too.

exactly my point. it was new 2011 model, made in 2010. it was NEW mechanically until 10/10. then someone drove 3000 miles on her. was it maybe a "test" car, one that they use for trials, or dealership owner wife used it for her pleasure, or whatever.
legally, that car was still new, just with a heck of a mileage for a new car. NEW car is one that was never titled. btw, you did not say if you bought it as used or as new.
i can see why you "had a deal" on it though. there's always a reason.
just like other guy here. bought his at some amazing deal. way below the lowest price anywhere else. i am still curious, what caused dealer to do it?

It was driven those 3K miles by me.I bought it new and had a Toyota part remote start installed 12/23/10.
I posted I bought it late Sept. The car had 9 miles on it and 17 after my test ride..
i see. sorry, my bad. yes, it simply is a 2011 model rolled out in 2010. even about same time i mentioned it in my previous post. sorry for confusion, it looked, at a glance, like as if you were showing some dealership records with mileage on it. my honest mistake.
i learned about this sales trick about 6 years ago. i think, i looked at the manufacturing sticker on pillar B and it stated that vehicle was made a year ahead of the "model year". so, kind sales person gave little spiel on dates and such. just makes you 'FEEL BETTER" thinking you are buying the latest model. bag of chips, half full, looks twice as large until opened, nothing more. CAVEAT EMPTOR.
All manufacturers do this. You may see some bulletins and other posts/documents differentiating between manufactured year and model year. You'll notice many technical bulletins are specific with manufactured year and month.

Yes, I've confirmed it: My just-purchased, "new" 2011 Camry Hybrid was actually manufactured in Georgetown, KY, March, 2010 (per door jam sticker): PDIed at the local Little Rock Toyota dealership in April, 2010 (per Toyota Owners' website service records); then sold to an unsuspecting geezer (that's me) on March 1, 2011.
On the salesman's part, it was a sin of omission: He failed to point out that the shiny "new" car was actually a year old. My wife liked the way the car drove and, more important looked, the beautiful "Blue Ribbon Metallic" color. Sooo, I bought what she liked.
Did I pay too much? Is $30k for a "new"/year old TCH with the nav package too much?
I'll never tell my wife what really went down. She'll probably discover it after we retire to SW FL in a few months at the Sarasota Toyota dealer when an age-related problem develops.
there's a book "1987". it's title. it was written back in 20s i believe. it's just a title. it does not make it old now, as it's a classic, and did not make it futuristic back when it was written.
"2011" is not a qualifier for old or new vehicle. it is part of a descriptor. it is a 2011 MODEL. it's an adjective, like black shoe. all it does it describes a particular style of a car that is somehow different from a 2010 one. that's it. YOU assumed it has something to do with manufacturing date or it being brand spanking new out of factory.
date when car was made has nothing to do with it's legal status of a "new" or "old". mof, "old" is not a car industry status either. "new" is a vehicle that was never titled. you can have one that was made in 1944 and if it was never titled, it is "new". if it was titled, then re-sold, it becomes "used" or "pre-owned", whatever sweetens the taste for a buyer.
there are plenty of legally new cars that still sit in parking lots and made back in 09 or 10. some domestic makes fell out of grace and don't sell. that does not make those cars old as in sense of being used, driven, beat up, trashed, and otherwise deteriorated.
the only concern you should have is that it was sitting in parking lots for almost a year, subject to elements. well, they are designed and made to be parked outside anyway. betcha half od their inventory in that price range was around same manufacturing time.
what you should be concerned about is buying one that was assembled in KY.
have you overpaid? it's a philosophical question. everyone who buys new from dealership overpays 20% and that value drops off the car the very moment it drove out through the gate. it is a well established fact and is beyond argument. every financial advisor in the country will tell you to buy used and pay cash. i just scoped them on local craigslist, and they range between $24-26K with couple thousand miles on them, and you can get a better deal from a private party.
guy, stop eating yourself up. it's one of the lessons you learned, and it's invaluable. look at it this way. woman likes the car? how much will you pay for having satified wife? pricelees, aye, mate? simply next time, save some cash, buy used or, at least, look at that sticker on pillar B.
I do not think that you have much to worry about regarding how "new" the car is. Manufacturers have done this for as long as I can recall, but usually the new models come in August or September. April is a bit early, but not unheard of.

This is the part that i would be concerned about. $30k is way too much even for a fully optioned Camry Hybrid. Mine is fully equipped with the Nav and all of the bells and I did not pay anywhere close to $30k.
