Hi, just joined this Toyota forum. Hope this isn't a repeat question, I used the search but came up empty.
We bought a used 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid a couple months ago, it has a bout 45k on it. I've noticed a pump like sound coming from I guess the rear passenger side but it's hard to tell. It's kind of a priming up and then down sound one would hear from a pump if that makes any sense?
It seems to happen when idleing or driving around at city speeds. It repeats itself sometimes every minute or so then seems to go away after a half hour so or maybe I just get use to it then forget about the sound.
Is this normal? anyone else hear this sound? It's driving me bonkers.

I don't have that issue.
You do have an 8 year/100K warranty on hybrid components.Let a Toyota dealer service dept check the noise out.
no, have same year and bought with exactly same mileage. all whirring noises are coming from the front, and are caused by MG 1 and 2. you'll get used to that.
there's HSD battery cooling fan in the back that can possibly do this.
maybe it's just housing or something loose. they got a lot going on behind the rear backrest and in the trunk.
here's suggestion. get a well eared person back there, but have rear seat pulled out, so that it does not dampen noise. also, if possible, have pass side quarter of the rear backrest down.
hey, think a stethoscope might come real handy. even one from TЯU.
unfortunately, you are out of non-power train components warranty. you still have 5K miles on power train. you do have 100K on HSD components - if that's the case.
That is interesting. I have noticed several noises from the front of ours. Even when the car is shut down.
There was "one day" where I heard a couple strange noises from the rear. It almost sounded like a horn blowing from a great distance. I'm assuming that was the battery fan spooling up, shutting off or something. I have not heard the noise since. That was a month ago.
Hmm. I din't recall ever hearing the fan in the rear. It should be near silent. You should probably get it checked out, because your MPG will plummet (temporarily until the fan is repaired) if it fails and allows the battery to heat up.
Other sounds I have heard from my '07 TCH. Those are the ABS brakes being pumped up usually after parking. This comes from under the hood on the ABS (passenger) side of the car.
I did once hear the fan running very quietly from the rear vent under the rear window. It was during a hot summer when I just switched off the car here at home. The fan was barely audible while cooling off the traction batteries.
Ive noticed a noise coming from around the steering column when i first press the "START" button to turn on the car. I dont know if I would call it a pump noise but more like gears engaging.

Is this normal? TIA
Yes it is, that's your 'steering wheel lock' servo releasing. Next time watch your steering wheel move some when it releases.
