Canada 12V Battery - discharge time

I was planning on buying TCH and Googling around I run into some users having problem with 12V Battery (the one in the trunk), when not use for certain period of time let say a week or two it discharges quickly.
When this 12V Battery is dead, what information is lost?

Do these batteries discharge quickly when not in use?

My 2008 TCH had problems when I bought it. The check hybrid system light would come on. I checked the 12v battery and was discharging at a fast rate. After going to 2 dealers, the inverter/converter was changed and the 12v battery stays charged. According to the manual and Toyota Headquarters, the 12 volt battery should stay charged like a regular car. I let my set 4 days a week. I will then drive it 15 miles and the 12volt battery will be at 12.6 volts after the car sets 2 hours.

So the "inverter" was the problem. Why did you have to go to two dealers to have it fixed?
Were they arguing with you that everything was OK?
The "inverter", is it that expensive part about $8K ?

I took the car to the dealer I bought if from. They kept it a week and the only thing they did was to reset the computer codes. Their hybrid "expert" told me it was normal for the 12volt to go completely dead. I called Toyota and they tried 3 times to contact the dealer and the person was always out of the office. I then took it a dealer closer to my house and they knew I had a problem after looking at the car for 10 min. They did not have the part in stock. I called Toyota and the dealer received the part from Japan in 3 days. Both dealers gave me a loaner car to drive. It has been my experience that half of the dealers service departments are no good. It really pays to contact the manufacturer and let them know how upset you are.
