I've been having the occasional issue with my AM radio for most of the almost 5 yrs I've had the car. Over those years I've heard of others having similar problems, some having the radio replaced, not always fixing the problem, especially back in the early days. In my case, the fix was always easy. I just shut off the entire radio, turn it back on, problem solved. That, and the fact that it only happens to me once every couple of months I've never bothered to do anything about it. I've never heard of any kind of permanent fix that didn't involve changing out the radio for a replacement.

About 2 years ago I caught our local Toyota shop during the winter without much going on. I had taken it in after calling the service department to do the TSB on the rear brakes. They sometimes made a slight vibration sound when I backed up in our driveway and then stopped to go forward.

Once the tech was done I mentioned the outer ring or radio frame was usually off (not lit) and sometimes it would come on but was then to bright. Also I would loose the AM or FM. (can't remember which) The radio got so bad one time the it was dead till the next evening on the way home then it worked ok.

I mentioned this to the tech and he said, yes we have had some problems with the 2007 TCH radio. He ordered me a replacement that included the lighted frame. I went a few days later and he installed it, putting the same stations back on the same punch keys as it was.

I had removed my 5 CD's, but he said no problem. He told me he pulls them out then puts them into a dust protection box. Once the new radio is installed he puts CD's back in the same order.

He did mention the radio going in is refurbished. I looked it over very good as I used to repair car radios when I was young. It looked factory new to me, even the plastic cover over the dial looked factory new.

The good news it the radio has now played for 2 years and works great including the CD player. I forget now, but I think they may have a TSB on the OEM radio or maybe mine was still in shorter warranty. (getting old and can't remember) lol
