So...I go to a local dealer here in Tampa to get transmission fluid. Can you guess the price they quoted me for a qrt of the WS fluid.....$16.75. YES! That is correct, $16.75 per qrt. I'm still looking, needless to say.
probably the only toyota dealership around, it should only cost $7 a quart. if you have a nissan dealership try that out. they're basically the same rebranded ATF WS.

Okay so wow - I am now kinda sold on Amsoil - just watched video - to they make a Amsoil ATF for our cars? If so would it be better than the Toyota WS fluid?
no. you do not have true automatic transmission. mof, you do not have even a transmission, in manner they have it on other cars, in this vehicle. you have what is called power sharing device, conventionally called by Toyota a CVT, continuously variable transmission.
Considering all this, what fluid does inside, is simply lubricate parts. In automatic transmission, ATF works as hydraulic medium to actuate gears AND lubricate/cool parts.
go with Toyota stuff. It's inexpensive, and there's no good cause to experiment. Beides, I asked Amsoil, and they do not recommend any of their products for this purpose.
This is great! So on the Amsoil thing.... where do you get it and what kind of filter do you use?
What weight also? 5w-30 or 10w30 or what?
I just got a 2006 Highlander Hybrid. Do think this will be the same?
Changing inverter fluid - is that a dealer only thing or what?
Very helpful. Thanks.
that's write up on inverter fluid change at green hybrid. it's quite complex.
you buy Amsoil - for engine - on internet, in 4 qt jars, or in gallons.
I buy mine at local Chevron station.
5W20 is recommended, with 0W20 suggested for "best mileage" but it drops mpg on mine, so I go on 5W20, or 5W30, what's available.
you have 10 000 and 25 000 miles Amsoil. 25K is called signature series. It's expensive, they just jagged price again, and you must change oil filter midway, to run it to that mark. as low as filter is set in TCH, I do not think it's possible. unless you relocate filter up higher.
if you have 4WD Highlander, you want to right away change rear diff, front diff, and transfer case fluids to Amsoil oils. Mof, I think, at least 2 of those run on Toyota ATF, then you can use Amsoil ATF and just forget about it for the rest of the time you own the car.
keep forgetting, you are V6 owner, right? On my wife's RX300, which is Highlander platform, oil filter is very high on engine block, so yes, it can be changed mid-mileage for signature series oil.
well, you asking in wrong forum, actually. on TCHs, we have PSD. I am not sure, what you have as transmission on Highlander. if it's standard automatic, then sure do use Amsoil ATF, which will cost you A LOT. if it's PSD, like we have - use Toyota OEM WS.
you need to find out, what Highlander has for fluids, as one of 4WD components uses same fluid, as in transmission. if you have differential/gear oil in any of those - replace it with Amsoil product of same weight, and forget about it.
eg, our RX300 uses 75W90 gear oil in transfer case, forgot where else. that you replace with Amsoil gear oil.
I have only 2 filters that I recommend - Mobil1 and K&N. whatever's cheaper at the moment.
