Headlights on Auto turns off only in full daylight

My TCH 2008 headlights are hardwired on Auto. What I find is that the headlights stay in when I am driving in the wee hours where I see the transition from night to dawn. Even in daylight say around 7:00 am in the morning in SW Ontario nowadays, the headlights stay on and turn off only when sunlight hits the sensor.

Any suggestions?

you may be able to cover the sensor up to keep the h/lights on if thats what you are looking for.. other wise the system is working the way it is made to perform.. if you have day time running lights,, they take take over when the h/lts shut off... not sure what you are looking to get out of the system

The sensitivity is adjustable by the dealer.

My dealer told me that they cannot make any adjustments to the Auto Headlight feature. I do believe that they are lying however

When the daytime running lights are on the lamp symbol on the dashboard should not be on. In my case the 'lamp' is on, on the dashboard indicating that the headlights are on. What I am trying to say is that when it is daylight the headlights should switch off early rather than later.

so,, what exactly is the problem? slight delay in lights shut off? aren't you supposed to have lights ALWAYS on in Canada anyway? they even make different lights switch for Ca models...

ok, so you have USA model. weren't you the guy that posted, while back, how to rig that switch so that DRLs can not be turned off due to Canadian regulations?

ok, so lights stay on longer. so what? this car has enough power to run them, and i seriously doubt it lowers your mpg or something. i am fairly safely assuming that after you have done this: My TCH 2008 headlights are hardwired on Auto.you should be expecting some "repercussions", right? why not simply let it go and not to ruin your health over something so minute?

Use the selector switch and dial the headlights to "off" and back to "auto". This will work when it is fairly light out but not ready for the system to turn them off. Hope this helps...

Urkoz - I do not have issue with DRLs. I was just seeking advise as to how to reduce the deadband on the light sensor of there is any. I like my car and have some knowledge of automotive technology to know that even if the headlights stay on for an extended period of time, is not going to affect anything even insignificantly. If this very minute issue is not resolvable, so be it.

I am happy with the Canadian DRL regulations.

sorry to read frustration in your voice. i have never meant anything about DRLs. i was referring to headlights, staying on. it's 2 separate animals. my point is - if you have rigged light switch, who knows what it will result in. that was it.

btw, we are not Canadian police here. if you are unhappy with any regulations, or happy with them - that's probably least of our concerns. forums strictly pursue freedom of speech and opinion, unless it's offensive.

let it go. don't worry, be happy.

Easy, ukrkoz. The OP is only looking for suggestions, not to get flamed.

In my own personal experience, johnjan, my 2011 Camry does the same thing. My headlights won't switch to DRL's until it practically has the sun shining all over the dash, and it's still fairly light out when it switches back to the DRL's. I don't really think much into it, personally, and it doesn't bother me. However, maybe run to your local dealer and see if you can get the sensitivity changed as AML suggested.
