Anyone replace a rear wheel bearing?

Hello,

I've done a bunch of searching but can't find much regarding replacing a rear wheel bearing. I have an '08 TCH so if anyone has done one I'd appreciate some insight on the job. I'm pretty mechanical so I'm not too worried but it would be nice to know what to expect going in.

Thanks
Bill

I remember looking at those when I rotated the tires last. It looks pretty straight forward. You don't replace just the bearing. You replace the entire "hub assembly".

Basically you remove the wheel and brake assy's. then all you have to deal with is 4 bolts that secure the hub and a wire for the ABS.

I would definitely want to read a shop manual before I got into it though.

How many miles on the car?

87,500 which is low, however the sound is definitely reminiscent of one that's going bad even with new tires now on the car.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Well thats a bummer. We drive ours 400 to 700 miles per week now. We broke 86,000 this week. I have been hearing a Noise too. I'm hoping it is the tires.

Have you jacked the car and checked the bearings for play or noise?

Also, do you notice more or less noise in a long sweeping curve (left or right hand curve)?

Haven't jacked the car up but I'll get around to that. I've had wheel bearings fail in other cars before and they don't have any noticeable play in them but I'll check just the same. It's the pass rear so when I make a sweeping left hand bender and load the driver side of the car the noise is somewhat less.

overall this car is no different from regular Camry. and i seriously doubt there are any major differences between 2006 and 2008 models, in this respect, and they do have repair manuals for that year.
