Hybrid and Extended Warrenties

I am really at odds with myself. I've been woning and driving cars for 40 years and never had an extended warrenty. Well I just bought a 2010 TCH with 40,000 mile on it and I'm conflicted. I'm thinking that because this is a hybrid that an extended warrenty might be a good idea. Wondering if anyone has seen an Edmonds/KBB/Car & Driver review/comment or any other definitive article that states an extended warrenty might be a good idea if you own a hybrid. thanks.

1. you still have 20 000 powertrain warranty
2. if you live in CARB state, you have 150 000 miles or ten i believe years of hybrid drive, or HSD, warranty
3. if you do not live in CARB state, you still have 100 000 (forgot years) miles warranty on HSD.
4. Toyotas overall are quality, reliable cars.

if you are the type that rather pays more, but sleeps better - well, then sure, buy extended warranty. after 20 000 miles, as you are, basically, covered until then.

I wouldn't. But this is nothing but my personal attitude towards extended warranties, or any warranties that are being pitched on the side. Then of course, I do most of my repairs myself.

I'll probably go for a Toyota extended warranty near the end of my basic warranty if I keep the car.I'll buy it from Troy Dietrich of Toyota of Greenfield in MA at a great discounted price.I've bought from him before.
He's very popular with warranty sales.
As ukrkoz says,I'm one of those who sleep better with one.
Especially that Toyota's aren't the Toyota's of the past when it comes to quality.
However at 40K,you're over the basic warranty and can't buy a Toyota warranty. In your case I would stay without a warranty.
Never liked those aftermarket Mickey Mouse warranties.

splais, here's a suggestion. SERIOUSLY watch your coolant level in the reservoir. I had my water pump replaced several months ago under powertrain warranty. One of my patients came over for a "personal" question, as he has exactly same TCH I do, except that his mpg is 34 average. So, we did some "improvements" to it, and sure enough - coolant level is low and there are droplets of caked coolant on engine block. he's out of luck though, his has 60K on ticker. maybe they will still replace it, he's a miserable type of person, might strike their pity string, if they have one.
