Camry HybridDiscussion area for the Toyota Camry Hybrid. Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving Americas favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I've lately seen some news reports that the TCH is in for a makeover for 2012. Does anybody have any idea how significant it'll be? I'm still mulling when to buy one for my wife.
Check out the Camry section and Toyota new section. There's multiple threads on the redesign of the 2012 Camry, Hybrid included. The Camry is coming out in late summer/early fall, hybrid probably won't be out until a little later than that.

looks about same inside, just more wood trim on door panels and now has Cadillac-esque side lights in the front.
powertrain still same 2.5L. cosmetics only.
Same battery technology? Actually, I like the styling.

Hyundai and others have gone to a lithium battery set up which has more power and lighter but Toyota is staying with he present battery type in the Camry for a couple of more years.
^This is all incorrect, like we have said about the NA camry, the hybrid will be a COMPLETE MAKEOVER. It isn't going to look anything like the current one. We have a member on this forum who works at the KY plant and has seen/built the car! It is not the same as the one on the roads today!!!
easy now. though he might be right, then entire web is wrong.
http://www.latestautoreviews.com/pic...-camry-hybrid/ New Camry incorporates throttle-pedal modifications, and is mostly a carry-forward of 2010 Camry. Coming back to Toyota’s plan of releasing 10 more hybrids this year, its pretty evident that Toyota is now getting serious about scope of its advanced alternative-fuel vehicle development, and expanding its Camry lineup.
then again, they will put a new headlight on and call it "complete redesigned vehicle". then again, there's virtually no info on 2012 Hybrid on the web, mostly re-prints of the same 2 articles. even powertrain varies from 2.5L that we have now, to 2.7L from Venza, to a V6. somehow all agree that transmission will be 6 speed automatic, not CVT. possibility of manual.
so, either a man from KY is right, or entire web is wrong. make things even more interesting, Toyota USA website has no info on 2012 TCH. why don't we just sit and wait?

Those web things ARE wrong. The 2012 is a completely new design of the Camry. Period. Literally everything you posted is BS from websites that carry over the same thing over and over. That same webpage said the same for the 2011, 2010, etc.
The Camry was last redesigned for the 2007 model year, and 2011 will be the last. The 2012 model will not be a rehash of the Gen 6 in any way shape or form. It's a new platform and design.

Toyota is going to release the new Camry in September(ish) of this year as a 2012 model and have them rolling out for sale almost immediately. No auto show debut, teasers, etc., nothing. They did that for the previous Camry. No reason to suspect they won't do the same.

I been looking at information from Australia for months now trying to find details like power and which batteries the 2012 Camry hybrid will have. I do know they will be 10 Prius's available including one that is a plug-in. A new smaller prius is in the list. Sure thought I read the new prius will be using the lithium batteries.
The new 2012 TCH body is a little wider, with a slightly longer wheelbase. The engine may be the 2.7L which would up the power by 20 or so horsepower, with improved mpg.
Take all this with a grain of salt, as you know many web sites are inaccurate months before a new model car is released.
This site may have been posted earlier and may not look like the American final version of the car.

The entire web is wrong.
Who would you rather trust-random websites, or an actual factory worker? I'll take the latter....

They did it for the 2002 Camry (not sure of the prior Gens) but the Gen 6 did have an autoshow debut, Detroit in 2006.

I learned a lot from the web a year before toyota came out with the new version of the 2003 Corolla. I found web sites reporting on the car from Europe, Brazil and Asia. Actually the 2003 test car Corolla in Asia looked terrible. The car in Brazil looked OK, but it had the old single round headlights on each side like from the 50's. The European model looked pretty good but was partially taped up to disguise it, but most of the front end was not covered. Once it came out the America, i had the nice looking swept around plastic covered headlights which included the parking lights. The new American version had a nicer looking grill than the European version. Like all here are saying, it's hard to tell what the car looks like till the actual US version is released for sale.
On those sites in 2002 I did find the wheelbase, engine size, car weight and other basic information. Since then Toyota may be tightening down on any new car information before it's release.
I hope the KY plant worker can tell us which batteries Toyota will go with on the new TCH. I did read above this post where one said it's still the nickle hydride pack.

I can't find the article online I read that stated that the Camry will still use the nickle battery because they have a contract with Panasonic and they can't produce enough lithium batteries or doesn't make lithium batteries.
I believe other than the Prius,Toyota doesn't want to have lithium batteries in the Camry and not in the Lexus hybrids.
