I have a quick question for you owners out there,I am looking at purchasing our first Hybrid(an Estima) and i have a question..
When u first start the vehicle in the morning say, does the Petrol engine run or do u always start on electric, reason why I ask is how is the water for the vehicle heaters heated I know it may not be a HUGE question but I am wondering is all

The TCH uses the ICE (engine) to provide heat, which is part of the reason why efficiency suffers in cold weather. However, I've noticed that my TCH seems to take about half the time to "warm up" compared to my wife's 2002 4 cyl Camry. I'm not sure why.

OK thanks for that
Next question is
what is ICE and TCH

just kidding, you mates in Australia have no ice anyway, right? it's internal combustion engine. ICE. HSD is hybrid synergy drive. TCH is toyota camry hybrid.
well which ever way it works, that car warms up FAST! one mile down the road at 36 mph, and i have full blasting heat coming out the vents. i have no proof to it, but i seriously think they have some sort of electrical heater built in. it warms up unusually fast for just ICE to do this.
oh, and i have question for you. what's that carriage in my avatar pic?
Ok thanks for clearing that up, one thing though
I AM FROM NEW ZEALAND not AUSTRALIA gggrrrrr
we do get a wee bit of ice(frozen water) Here as they also do in OZ,sounds like heating wont be an issue then...
only a few more concerns to work thru and we will see

ooops.. didn't know there's a feud between the 2. i almost applied for job at NZ. guaranteed, there's total lack of schools and professionals in my trade there.
i am envious. Australia appears to almost have their own design TCH. I have seen some very cool developments yesterday, when i did snooping on the web for 2012 model. yes, yes, i know you are from Zealand.
she seriously warms up fast. and if you still have real petrol, not diluted gashol they sell here, you should have very fine gas mileage. my forecast for you is 45mpg average. warm climate and - maybe - better gas.
oyts!! that's a minivan! sorry, thought Estima is ossies Camry. no, it's a much larger vehicle, won't do 45mpg.
then again, our responses are irrelevant then. have no idea how Previa warms up.

In the winter, usually the gas engine pops on first. In the summer, the gas engine won't come on right away unless you step on the gas.

The Previa runs the same Hybrid system as the camry I think only difference AFAIK is that it has a rear drive as well (electric)

that's all dandy, but HSD has little to do with warming up the engine/coolant. in TCH, they have done some substantial electrical envolvement, to allow better mpg: a/c is electrical, power steering is electrical assist. might be something else i am not aware of. but none of those is part of HSD. HSD is an add-on to a ICE, whatever that ICE might be. so, your question is more towards Previa forums, unless they changed it for ICE+HSD in Previa/Estima, to improve mpg.
