Detailed News Released today - 2012 Camry Hybrid

The supposedly rumored 2.7 liter engine, actually went from 2.4 to 2.5 liter, but upped the power due to both cams now being variable which upped the torque. The windshield will be made of a new material. The trunk is now lots larger. A ten year, 100K mile warranty on the hybrid components including a smaller/lighter traction battery. Roomier rear seat leg room. I like the idea of this new 43 mpg city. The EV speed only increased to 45 mph.

Another good one.

The following is part from automobile magazine.

Best of all, the new hybrid Camry is not only 250 pounds lighter than before, but its four-cylinder engine has gained more than 100 cc's of displacement along with 9 hp and 18 lb-ft of torque. The trunk is 24 percent bigger to boot.

I'm sure we will be seeing lots of this new model on television soon. I did read that toyota plans to flood the TV market during the month of October. I talked with the local toyota sales manager and he told me it may be early November when the first 2012 Camry hybrid should arrive at their dealership.

Toyota releases pricing on the new 2012.

There will also be two Hybrid trims...LE and XLE, with the LE only running around $26k, not bad.

Cool

I took a lot of heat from the Mrs. when I upgraded our '07 TCH to the '10 model. Got the Nav/Leather package and the 24 month maintenance - all at the 2.9% financing.

New one looks intriguing but looks like we'll have to stay with the current '10 offering.

Am I the only one who likes the regenerative braking?

Seems like I read more than once the new 2012 uses the NiMh batteries. Could be newer designed cells and battery case to save weight. I compared the specs and the 2011 and 2012 both show 244.8 dc volts output.

The new traction battery pack:

204 cells
1.2 volts per cell
6.5 amp hr

I found this in one of the many reviews on this 2012 TCH.

An improved regenerative braking system that converts more braking energy into electricity over an expanded operating range.

I found this detailed review comparing the new TCH to a earlier model. This review also includes some close-up pictures of the 2012 speedometer/read-out area.
