Rear Windshield Shattered

I was driving home last night and out of nowhere i hear POP. It scared the #$@! out of me! I look in my rear view mirror and I notice my rear windshield is blurry. Next, I hear crackling and I realized that my rear windshield shattered. I looked around to see if I was hurt and listened for wind noise and felt/heard nothing. I proceeded home and did an inspection. Luckily I had tint and it held everything in place.

I found no point of impact and nothing that may have caused my rear windshield to shatter. The next day I brought my car to Toyota and they too couldnt figure out what happened. I googled this and only 2 people have had this happen to them.

Anybody else had this happen? There were no cracks that Ive noticed previously and if there were, it wouldnt of caused that loud POP i heard.

That is very unlikely because I was traveling around 60-65mph and it was my rear windshield. If something that large or heavy enough like rock was thrown, it would've left a shatter point and rolled down on to my trunk.

Im pretty confident there was nothing thrown.

take, life happens. stuff falls off the cars on freeways all the time. rocks are being picked by tires and tossed around at high speeds also. all it takes is one of freakish "wrong spot at the wrong time" smacks. I had my CR-V windshield cracked in a half by a tiniest chip, and could not even see where it happened, until dealership adjuster pointed at it to me. things like this might be very hard to notice, should you have entire glass in cracks.
Then again, Honda had TSB issued on Elements. There was imperfection in frame that was causing high stress point in the windshield, resulting in particular cracks starting at the bottom. If you found several end users that had same issue - shattered glass for not apparent reason - write letter to Toyota. Start with customer satisfaction manager, then take it up a notch.

I have zero doubt that something impacted the glass. You may never know what. It's not always obvious where the impact was since the tempered glass shatters into a zillion pieces. Not much you can do now but replace it.
