Steering noise

have a 2008 camry with 70k miles . I am getting a binding noise when I turn the steering wheel back and forth standing still. Are there any grease points on the front end. Other than a new water pump @58k every thing else is original. The oil has been changed by the dealer since day 1. Thanks.

not sure what binding noise is.

I'd check on CV joint boots first thing. Otherwise, you have tie rod ends to check on.

Of course, goofy chit like a tree branch stuck there happens.

Power steering is electrical assist. "bind" sounds like a mechanical obstacle somewhere.

It sounds like my old posi rear when I made a turn. Are there any grease fitting on the front end?

oh, grab-let go, grab-let go? that does sound like busted CV joint. bearings catching inside the hubs.
No, there are no zerks anywhere on that car. it's all "sealed for life" stuff.

did you even take a look at CV joint boots?

I took a look and everything looks fine. we've had a ton of rain here lately and I am wondering if its the struts. My honda CRV had the same issue and I sprayed them with silicone and the noise went away. I think the spring turns with the steering movement. Ill give it a try and let you know.

no, spring should not turn. you have mcpherson strut suspension, spring edges sit one in a special recess in strut spring lower seat, and the opposite one in rubber bushing, which is up in upper seat. the only thing that's supposed to rotate is entire strut, as a whole, with upper seat turning on upper mount.
if your spring slips on strut plate, it chose to be loose somehow.
this link here:

has nice pic of lower spring seat with spring mount.
