This is driving me nuts too. I have add them look at them and they said there is nothing that can be done. I am continuing to look into it further as it is becoming a real annoyance.

Other than that (and a XM issue), the car and mileage are great.

I love the regen braking whine. Reminds me of how awesome this car is. I feel like it's less bad when I just do coast down regen braking...

I have only had my TCH XLE for two days but I don't even notice the regen braking noise, you can barely hear it when the radio is off and not at all with the radio on. It sort of reminds me of an airplane engine winding down after you land. This car is great so far.

I always thought the inverter noise sounds cool. It's like those futuristic monorails coming to a stop .

I think Toyota programmed a louder inverter to offset having to put the VPNS which is on the Prius v, 2012 Prius and 2012 Prius c. (And it'll most likely migrate to the Camry Hybrid next year).

Hey y'all, I also bought a XLE Camry this week. It's my first hybrid and I love it. I test drove the Prius too. It was a nice car, but I didn't like that pause you get for a moment as you accelerate and I don't much car for the exterior styling. The Camry is a perfect blend of looks, tech features (I love me my gadgets), space, and economy. I got an excellent trade in for my 08 RAV and didn't look back! P.S. I love the sound of the regenerative brakes. It's like the space ship has landed. Too funny.

+1 above. I am shopping the Prius and the Camry Hybrid at the moment. I like them both but the Camry is awesome(r). Waiting for the plug in Prius to test drive.

I can hardly wait for the sound of the regen brakes because that will be the high tech sound of money flowing back into my pockets.

FWIW:

I test drove both this week. I have never had a hybrid, so this was a learning experience.

The Prius was very comfortable and inside felt larger than I expected. Ultimately, what I didn't like the Prius' momentary lag when you first accelerate. Once you get going the ride is very smooth and acceleration is fine, but I thought that lag would get more annoying over time.

This is a personal preference, so take it with a grain of salt. I don't like the exterior or the space-age-y instrument panel of the Prius, I prefer the traditional car look.

Ultimately, the Camry gave me everything I wanted without compromise.

I am still very happy with my Camry XLE! I now have 1700 miles on it. I take a round trip once a month (Baton Rouge to New Orleans) to Harrahs casino- Some strange things happen on this trip that I cannot explain. Going to New Orleans My MPG is 39.8(no AC) and the same exact route returning(with AC) is 44.8. Mostly flat roads and driving the same exact speed of 72 mph. I am not complaining in fact very excited with the 44.8. It just doesn't make sense. I have taken this trip three times and the same MPG's occur. I set my MPG dial at zero when I enter the freeway going and coming. I love this car!!

EV will show up in display when ICE is off. You can monitor in the center display exactly what is supplying what.

One thing I noticed with my 2008 is just how sensitive it is to headwinds. "Drafting" a truck or a tailwind will improve highway 'instant MPG' by at least 5-7. If your trip included significant prevailing winds (10+ MPH wind speed), it would explain the difference.

Could it be because of the lower weight on the return, having left your money behind at the casino?
