Tried it out after purchase doing a trip from Baton Rouge to New Orleans. Very quite, smooth running, no wind noise and very comfy for me - I am 6' 5" tall and 250lbs. Was very impressed with the 41.8 mpg on the round trip (approx. 150 miles). I believe Toyota has a winner on this 2012 model.

Congrats on your new car. I test drove one a few days ago and agree that this is a spectacular car. I really feel like this should have a Lexus badge on it... powerful, quiet and very attractive cabin/instrument cluster. Do you notice that you are watching the guages alot? I honestly could not tell when the gas engine was on or off. Is there something to tell you this in the instruments?
I am waiting for the LE. It hasn't come out yet here in Canada. It gets a little better fuel econ. maybe because of the smaller wheel.
Happy driving!

I am still deciding on what options I want on the XLE that I am going to buy here shortly. Just curious what was your avg speed on your trip? I will be using the car to drive a lot of miles and hearing that it got almost 42 makes me happy
On the trip I drove 70-75 mph- At this speed I was really happy with my 41.8. There is a display by the speedometer that lets you know exactly when the engine and battery is being used - it has several modes that are really cool. Yes, you do have a tendency to watch the screens a lot but that will wear down some as the newness wears off. My odometer showed 212 mile and my range screen showed I had another 505 miles left on my tank! Loving this beauty so far.
Congrats on your new purchase. I am sure you will love it as much as I love my '10. I recently test drove a '12 XLE, and was impressed, but not so much so to want to actually trade for the '12. I consistently get 42 mph at 70 mph on mine and am quite happy. Who knows, in a couple of years, I might consider the 2nd generation TCH. Please keep us posted on your thoughts.
With SoCal traffic in the PM hrs, the trip computer show that my average is about 50mpg over the course of 35 miles each way. Still on 2nd tank of gas and average on 1st tank is about 45mpg. That is mostly congested fwy miles
So far I'm happy with the milleage.
don't you get any noisy whining sound from the regenerative brake? I got this all the time on my 2012 camry hybrid and it really bothers me. I don't know what to do..
We got our TCH XLE home on 1/3 at 11pm. I just took it into West L.A. in evening freeway traffic and got about 42mpg over about 90 miles. But, as we were using the carpool lane much of the time, we were actually using more gas than if we were in stop and go traffic. Looking forward to more road trips in the next year. San Diego later this month, Las Vegas and Colorado Springs in May and Sedona in November.
As for the brakes, there is some additional noise but, I am not minding it as I too, am looking at the probably 650 miles between fill-ups. I did read about not hitting the brakes hard during the first 100 miles and I was able to accomplish that.
I'm still enjoying my new XEL to the extent that I find any excuse to drive it. I have a question for the forum - When you open the door does your overhead enterior light come on? Mine does not - is there a switch somewhere to get this to happen? I have never owned a car that the light will not come on when the door is opened.

I just went into my garage and opened the driver side door. The lights came on after a split second delay. I did not enter and closed the door. About 15 seconds later, the lights gradually dimmed and went out. I found some instructions in the Owner's Manual, pages 286 & 287
So far, I have been about to attain about 40 mpg in a variety of conditions.

We picked up our 2012 Camry Hybrid 12/27/2011.
Wife loves it.
First fill-up at 555 miles came to 40.26 MPG
I would guess that 80% commute highway and 20% city driving.
Our old 2005 Camry just rolled 309,000 miles and been averaging about 23 MPG. So just waiting for the paperwork from California to retire the car.
