Question 2 Issues with 2008 TCH (Oil, Radio)

Hello again

Briefly:

1-What should the mileage be between oil change? asking because service center said 4000 miles, I checked after 5000 and oil's still good!

2- Radio reception was perfect when I bought the car, now it's the same, actually when I go just around the city radio signal becomes weak and I lose sound quality.

Another issue please, when I drive on a highway (when barely touching throttle), car makes a noise (rattling sound) like if it was a train (voooooooom), is it really (as it was said to me) that it is the "charging process!" ?

Thanks

Can only help some with the oil question. I believe Toyota has retroactively changed the oil change frequency in the US to 10,000 miles if you use 0W20 synthetic. You may want to write an e-mail to them to confirm.

The two-years free maintenance plan that came with my 2012 TCH provides for syn oil changes every 10,000 miles.

Yes, Toyota is only out 2 oil changes in 2 years on the Camry Hybrid and my Tundra. What a nice marketing ploy with very little cost to regain consumer confidence.

With 10,000 miles between oil changes, does anyone have to add oil between changes?

How much of a surcharge does the dealer charge for a synthetic oil change?

2 changes...little usage

I've had 2 dealer oil changes on my 2012 TCH. At the time of both changes, the dipstick showed halfway between Full and Add lines. I've never needed to add oil.

I do my own, but in Canada I believe the synthetic change with filter is about $51 at the dealer.

synthetic oil is roughly 8 to ten bucks a qrt here. Quality filter is $12. All pre-tax. Canadian dealers must know some magic to do it for $51.
When I do my oil change with Amsoil, which is $12 a qrt, Mobil 1 filter, and oil flush, my labor, my change costs me over $60 American for Camry and over $80 for Silverado.

What about the noise guys, it really makes me nervous, even my old 1998 Mercedes was quieter than my 08 TCH (when driving on a highway).

I've just checked the car in some garage (computer check), and readings were all negative (even on suspension, which I though was the reason!)

Don't know about Toyota, but my Honda dealer only gave me $3 per quart credit when using my own oil, claiming they buy in bulk in 55 gallon drums.

IMO, synthetic oil is way over priced, sort of like bottled water over filtered tap water.

Just checked and I see it is $41 for regular oil, and $52 for synthetic. For reasons I don't understand Toyota 0W20 seems to be cheaper in Canada, and I get it for $6 a liter including tax. The Toyota filters are a bit more expensive at about $7 here. Over the internet you can do better than that in the US - I believe closer to $5.

I would bring a 5 quart jug and ask them to fill it up for $15, and then change your own.

It sounds like you may have the pre-ignition problem that many have reported and talked about. Does the engine make a clattering sound on light throttle input at cruising speeds? The noise can also usually be heard at slower speeds with with light throttle input (engine on and fully warmed up, NOT in Emode). If so, try switching to 93 for a tank and see if the problem goes away.

The manual says to change the oil every 5,000 miles with synthetic if you use 0/20. Toyota updated this a few years back to 10,000 miles. I use 5/20 synthetic year round and change it @ 7500 miles. I also use Mobil 1 syn. and Toyota filters. The car has used less than half a quart between oil changes since I have owned it.
