4th Generation EGR flow Insufficient

i have an 1998 camry 4-cylinder i got an check engine light and when i did the vehicle test it says it is my an egr flow insufficient P0402. I did a search before i made this and i found out it cost 1 guy 400 to get it fixed (which i am not gonna spend that much to fix it) but the guy at Advance Auto Parts said i can fix it myself so i was wondering what i have to do to fix it.

thanx

If the guy @ the store said it was an EASY job, why not ask him?

Not being "snotty" just obvious !

And you may buy the EGR valve from him....

Like bunthy said check the vacuum lines at the egr actuator.

Also banging on the egr valve firmly with the wooden handle of a hammer
can sometimes unstick a stuck egr valve-(they get loaded with carbon over the miles).

My mom's Saturn SL1 had the Check Engine Light on. I whipped out my OBDII Scanner (paid only $150) and found it to be the EGR Valve giving her problems. Here's how you fix it:

-Disconnect your battery, not a joke, this is so your computer loses its error codes.
-Look in your manual and find out how to remove it, otherwise search online for the location and removal procedure.
-Once it's out, spray it with Carb Cleaner (not the stuff you put in gas, but in an aerosol can) and let it soak.
-After it has soaked for a good 10 to 15 minutes, I like to scrub it with an old toothbrush (that's no longer in use) to get any stuck particles off.
-Work the valve piston up and down, but don't spin it or try to work it side to side.
-Dump all of the carb cleaner out.
-Use compressed air (no special PSI) to blow the remaining liquid out.
-Make sure its dry and then put it back on the car.
-Make sure everything is as it should be.
-Reconnect the battery and drive the car around as usual. You're done.

Good Luck, and it's easier than it seems.
