Hi guys, I got a quick question. I have a 1999 camry LE 4cyl and occasionaly the parking brake light will come on after I take a semi tight corner, even at low speeds. It seems like if I pull over and sit there for a few secs it will go off or if I keep driving it will go off about a minute later. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as what the problem might be or how to fix it. It seems to have started about a month ago, at first it would probably happen about 1 time over a few days but now it seems to be happening more often. I'm not sure if its possibly just the ebrake sensor failing or if it might be something more serious, thanks.
if it was the fluid level check, then the BRAKE light would come on, not the parking brake light.
right symptoms, wrong light?
im not sure.

yes the parking brake light, the one that is in red capital letters that say BRAKE. I checked the fluid level and it is fine but it is getting pretty dirty and could be flushed but I'm not sure if that is related to this issue or not. The pads have been checked pretty recently and they were fine. Anyone else have any ideas?
I'm not sure which light your talking about...BRAKE or PARKING BRAKE (mine says Parking Brake for the PB...) anywaaays....if it's your BRAKES..then chech your fluid level, it is most likely low and causing the sensor to trigger when it splashes around. If it's your hand brake (PARKING BRAKE) then check the connection/switch on the lever, it is most likely loose or out of adjustment. My friends Celica did this, and there is no other reason for it...the light is simply controlled via a switch.

I'm not sure if you have a different model but I have a 99 camry le 4cyl that was built in japan. It is the same exact light that comes on when I pull my e brake, as in when I pull it the red BRAKE light comes on. That is the same light that is coming on some times when I go around corners and the ebrake is not set at all.
Make sure you actually remove the cap from the master cylinder when checking the fluid level. Don't just look from the side. Dirty fluid can stain the side of the reservior, making it look full when it is actually low.
Built in Japan?? So you have a Camry Gracia??
Yeah chech the connector on the hand brake lever..and check the fluid again. Wiggle the connections and see if the indicator lights up. Other than that, i have no idea!

alright, thanks for the help everyone. I opened the top to the brake fluid and it was full, but very brown (maybe this is causing an issue?) so I just decided to take it to a local shop here that is good with imports and have them check it out and atleast flush the brakes completly. Hope it doesn't cost me too much to fix
I had the exact same issue not too long ago and posted to this forum. The suggestion was to add maybe a finger's worth of brake fluid. While it didn't look low to me, I carefully added just about a finger's worth, and the light went o ut and hasn't come on since ...
and whn you change pads remember to take excess fluid out.
